Popping the Culture

Posted in blog | Tagged , , , , , | Leave a comment
So I’ve got my first pass pages for A Trace of Moonlight sitting on my desk – my last real chance at making any last edits, catching typos – the small stuff. They always say not to sweat the small stuff, but in this case small stuff can sometimes make a big difference. Pop culture is always changing – so sometimes a reference I’ve made in a book made perfect sense when I wrote it…and doesn’t a few months later. Case in point, the above passage is a rather snide commentary aimed at the Mass Effect 3 ending debacle. (The main issue was the the overall outcome seemed to be the same no matter what you did. To say gamers were upset would be an understatement of gross proportions.) Which is fine, except that a few weeks ago, Bioware released an extended ending DLC that attempted to give the player… Read more

Catching Up

Posted in blog | Tagged , , , , , | 3 Comments
The problem with going away on vacation…is coming back from vacation. And it’s not even that I have all the business type things to do – the emails, the website updates, the grocery shopping, etc. It’s having to come back to reality.  There was something really nice about the basic routine this time around, which essentially was nothing more than getting up early, eating whatever, maybe going for a walk on the beach or wherever, doing nothing until about 2 PM and then heading to the beach until 5 or 6, showering, dinner, drinking (at least as far as the rest of the family went) and maybe another beach walk. Which sounds fairly simplistic, but I was in desperate need of simple. And that’s not to say my “do nothing time” was actually spent doing nothing. It’s more that it was spent NOT working. In fact, I could break down… Read more

Trading Card Requests

Posted in blog | Tagged , , | 10 Comments
So I’m gearing up to do an additional swag run for A Trace of Moonlight. Now that I’ve got the cover ready to go, that makes things like bookmarks and stickers easy enough, but I also want to do another round of character trading cards. It will be another round of four, like the other sets, but I have to admit I’m a little torn as to who to get Darchala to draw this time. I’m sort of leaning toward Kitsune, simply because I love fox spirits, and I think Dar would do magnificent justice to her, but there are so many other characters that would also be good. So, dear readers and trading card collectors, who would YOU like to see? Robert? Charlie? Benjamin? Roweena, Jimmy Sqarefoot? The Queen? True Thomas? Didi? Katy? Brandon? Sonya? Tartbarbie? (For a character killed off in the first book, I do seem to… Read more

Thursday Posts & Updates

Posted in blog | Tagged , , , , , , | Leave a comment
Okay – I’m at a few places today, although there’s a bit of rehash, so YMMV as far as what you’re interested in. Of course Fox & Willow has a new page up, so go check that out for sure. 😀 (Next week’s pages are going to be fun. *grin*) Otherwise, I’m over at Word Whores today – if you want to know more about how I was taloned by a red-tailed hawk, today’s your lucky day.  *ahem* Or you could go to The League of Reluctant Adults and see my stuffed vampire maggot and get a look at the cover flats for A Trace of Moonlight. And don’t forget my flash fiction contest for said cover flat (I even ran out and bought a silver sharpie for occasion, simply because I’m that awesome…)… Read more

Writing Prompt Wednesday

Posted in blog | Tagged , , , , | 5 Comments
Looking for something fun to do today to shake off some of the negativity of the last few posts, so I’m going to do a flash-fiction writing prompt. I don’t normally do them, but they can be fun, and hey, prizes. Or *a* prize, I guess. I’ll mail a random winner a cover flat of A Trace of Moonlight (or any other cover flat/swag thing user wants). So here’s the picture: Post 500 words or less in the comments below. You’ve got until some random time on Friday or Saturday to get it done and I’ll draw on Sunday. 🙂 Incidentally, the title of the picture is called “Waiting” by Donato Giancola. (Check out the gallery for a ton of additional artwork – lots of familiar book covers in there.) What is she waiting for? Death? A lover? Alien Bears? Only YOU can say.… Read more
