Pushing Time

Obviously Lucy and I stayed home today. Strangely enough, she really wanted to watch “the ring movie” which apparently translated into The Fellowship of the Ring. I’m all for that, even though I was passed out for at least half of it. I feel moderately better, but not great. Lucy has definitely perked up, but we’ll see if that lasts until the evening. Hopefully she’ll be good to head back to pre-school tomorrow. In the meantime, I had great plans for today. Not really. Grocery shopping was on the top of my list but that’s not done yet. Two blog posts left to write, which I am procrastinating majorly on. Plus I just realized I’ve got about a month until convention season starts and I still need to order swag to give away for the panel I’m on at RT. T-shirts? Mugs? Bookmarks? Gift baskets? Sickly…

Both Lucy and I are running fevers tonight, so I suspect there’s a sick day in it for me tomorrow, or at least a day working from home if she’s not feeling any better. She’s definitely got the worst of it at the moment – my temp is running on the edge of uncomfortable with an side order of headache, but it’s manageable. Of course, it would be more manageable if I could actually take drugs for it, but alas, once I start down the road with aspirin or ibuprofen, my prolotherapy goes down the crapper. Anyway, today was good in other ways, as Ye Ye celebrated his 80th birthday. He actually managed to make it out to the Peking Gourmet Inn (if you live near DC, this is *the* place to go for Peking duck, bar none. Saturday Ramblings

Of course, the problem with having such an awesome and incredible week is that you eventually have to come back down to reality. My reality is that wearing heels for eight hours on Tuesday has led back into a massive pain cycle. Whee. Thank the gods for lidocaine patches, is all I can say. Nothing like a little numbing action to take the edge off. It’s still not quite right but at least I don’t want to jump out the window anymore. Ironically, even though it hurt the next few days afterwards, the pain is in a different place than it usually is – so in a sick sort of way it actually felt good, because the normal pain areas were getting a break. Brand Me

I was asked last week if I could maybe talk a little bit about author branding – specifically how it relates to my journey of getting published and how much influence did the publisher have on what I’ve done. It’s an interesting question, since I don’t know if I actually *have* an author brand at all. I have quirks that I write about, sure, but I don’t think I’ve ever attempted to knowingly focus my blogging into developing a specific brand. Brand is one of those weird sorts of buzzwords anyway. It gets mixed up a lot with logos and marketing and online presence and publicizing who you are and what you’re selling and why people should buy it from you instead of someone else. Word Whore Thursday

I’m a little late getting my posts up today – my work computer was upgraded and I’ve been on the “install/update/” roller coaster for the last few hours. Still not quite there, but at least I can use it now. At any rate, I’m over at Word Whores today talking about how music is what often feeds my muse, so stop on by if you get the chance. 🙂 I’ve also got an interview over at Mahalia Levey‘s blog today, and yesterday I was over at Alternative Reads talking about what’s on my desk.
