Carniepunk Giveaway Winner

Okay – after taking a tally of all the answers for the Carniepunk contest, I had ms Lucy draw the lucky winner and it’s Susan! (4th comment down on the above linked post.) Carniepunk…and Contest!

It’s here! Carniepunk is officially out today – so here’s your chance to finally fine out whats going on with Melanie and how she got her magic violin! 🙂 (And read a ton of other fantastic stories by some of the best UF authors in the business, of course.) It’s been a long ride getting this book out to the readers – several years in the making, in fact – and I’m so grateful that it’s finally here and happening. Spellbound and Spindles

Just giving a shout out today to a Kickstarter that I think is worth looking at.  It’s called Spellbound and Spindles and they’re trying to fund a couple of fairy tale anthologies (one for kids and one for adults) featuring a more diverse cast. I’m all about fairy tales and reworking them for today’s world (if I can, I’ll probably look at submitting something to them in the future. My love for The Little Mermaid knows no bounds – even aside from the steampunk retelling in Womanthology, I had at one point envisioned it as a gay story as well, so maybe I’ll take a look at that soon.) The archetypes present in fairy tales – the Good Mother, the Terrible Mother, the Wise Old Man or the Hero – are components that we see in nearly every story – again and again and again. Saying Goodbye

I had to say goodbye to Tumbleweed this weekend. If you’ve followed me for any length of time, you know I’ve had an African pygmy hedgehog for about three years. She’s been an interesting and amusing little thing – she certainly had her own mind made up when it came to things she did or didn’t like and though she was grumpy much of the time, she still had a particular charm. However, over the last year or so, she had been slowing down. Her left hind leg began to fuse together at the knee, forcing her to walk on her hock instead of the ball of her foot. The vets had never seen that happen before, but it didn’t seem to slow her down too much at first. Over the next year I did notice that she wasn’t as active as she had been. Change of Venue

I’ve been stuck on a bit of writer’s block lately. While editing the latest WIP I realized I needed to overhaul some chapters (and I’m actually in the process of adding some new ones to help flesh things out.) But it’s been slower going than I’ve like. I mean, yes, I’ve added nearly 8k so far, and I suspect there will be another 10k or more by the time I’m done, but since the story was a little short when I finished it, that’s fine with me. Part of the slowness is being distracted by a lot of stuff going on in real life. I’ve been finding it difficult to retain the focus that I need to get the words down. It’s not that I don’t like the story – I’m always thinking about it and taking mental notes, sometimes writing them down – but when I actually sit down… Read more
