Yoda shoes…
Meh. I had a point to make here and then I got all rambley. Sue me. I was running around Facebook today and there’s a group there that is talking about how to balance out sex and violence in their books. Mostly it’s a lot of people just talking about what they do in their own writing or what they like or don’t like. It’s kind of funny really – there’s an awful lot of people that don’t like sex *or* violence. Or just writing it maybe. So then I have to wonder…is it really that they don’t like reading/writing it, or is it that they just don’t know how to? (Admittedly this is a group of mystery/suspense writers, so there may be a bit of a bias here) For myself, I think I can read or write either – in whatever amounts are required for the story. Note that…

What do you do when you’re a French Olympian who can’t get a sponsor? Run naked through the streets of Paris, of course. –> https://www.romain-mesnil.com/ Remove that box, my friend, and I bet you won’t have any problem raising money. Nope. None at all.…

Ten Minutes

It doesn’t seem like a lot of time, does it? Or maybe it’s too long – but in either case that’s all I’ve got to work with. I snagged my first choices of publishers and agents to pitch to at RT (a big surprise to me, honestly), and now it’s put up or shut up time. I get 10 minutes to convince a publisher or an agent that my work is worth reading. Actually – it’s more of a 5 minute pitch and 5 minutes of questions, but the end result is the same. The reality of it is that the pitch is nothing more than a foot in the door – it’s not a guarantee of anything other than a chance to not have the manuscript tossed on the slush pile. Still – I’d rather get my toe crushed than be standing around picking my nose. I debated it,…

*ahem* It was pointed out to me yesterday that I appear to be a bit angry and bitter these days. Which is probably true. So to alleviate any concerns that I have fully gone over to the Dark Side, I present to you my purple sparkly shoes: And just to prove that I can smile without my face cracking off:…

Bitterness and Confessions

Wow. Ok, so now I’m rather flabbergasted. In the interest of protecting the innocent, if there are such things, I suppose I’ll avoid some of the more strenuous details. It appears as though no matter what I do, it’s wrong. I take a stand against passive/aggressive behavior and it’s wrong. If I let people walk all over me, it’s also wrong. Apparently I’m a liar now, too. Oh…and it’s also apparently common knowledge that I read everyone’s PMs over at the P&T forums. Which I don’t. Or maybe I do. Yes, that’s right! I have so much fucking free time on my hands – what with my full time job and my kids and my attempt to get published and all, that I routinely go through over 100,000 PMs and categorize them and print them out and plot ways to fuck up people’s lives. Gee, glad I got that little…
