Word-Whore ~ Fox and Willow Thursday
It’s been one of those surreal sorts of weeks where everything has devolved into utter chaos. So I’m going to whine. Lucky you. Lucy’s hacking away at night with this lousy cough making sleep hard to come by. Connor took a digger playing basketball and torqued his knee. (I’m just waiting for the phone call from school telling me to come get him – I did the ice and ibuprofen thing this morning, but it was pretty stiff. I kinda doubt he’ll be playing in his game tonight, which sucks – but we’ll still go and support the team.) And my joints just hurt all over today for no apparent reason. (Though I did somehow manage to crack a knuckle and maybe mess up a ligament in my hand. Burns like hell every time I try to twist open something. Meh. Body is falling apart. And I know I’m stressing…

Shift Change
Things have been a bit more hectic around here than usual – aside from the usual settling back in after vacation last week, Lucy was sick over the weekend (followed by me, naturally). But it’s been complicated by the fact that I’ve taken a new position at work. It will take me a little while to figure out what I’m doing, but I’m rather excited about getting the chance to do something new. Today was a bit of a mess since I had to move cubes – having to cull several years of crap is both inspiring and depressing. I’m in the new cube now, but most of my stuff is still in boxes. Not sure I have the energy to put everything back up just yet. The basics are in place, though – so it’s just a question of getting used to working with a new team in a…

Womanthology Space!
It’s officially out! Lots of different places to buy it from, but I’m linking over to Comixology for the digital convenience. My 6 page story is called The Wind in Her Hair – and yes, it’s The Little Mermaid…retold with genderswapped steampunk robots. Because I can. (Obviously I’d love it if you guys could spread the word and let me know what you think, but I’m just super happy to have it finally released.)…

Knowing the Limits
One of the things I’ve been doing recently is working through a pain management journal. Even though I know there’s an actual physical reason for a good deal of my pain issues, I do think there’s a mental component mixed in with it. The journal has been helping me work through some of that – it’s become clear to me that I’m carrying a great deal of anger. About a lot of things, I guess. I’m not going to unload them here because it will probably bore the pants off of most people – plus as much I tend to share everything, some stuff does need to remain sacred…at least until I understand it better. The theory is that if I can unload some of this anger, perhaps I’ll be able to manage my pain better. Even if it’s not a direct cause, holding everything in like I do is…

Back to the Grind
The problem with going on vacations is that they end. For what it’s worth, we had a fabulous few days – I barely touched my laptop and I kept my online interactions to a minimum. Not that I don’t like sharing all my fun, but I’m online too much as it is and I didn’t want any distractions, so there you go. Most nights I tottered into bed around 11 or 11:30 and slept in until 8 or 9, so it was definitely a healthier sleep schedule than what I normally get. The offshoot of having all that fun is that I’m not sure I’m all that much more rested physically (thanks to the stupid back – and yes, I kept my roller coasters down to a minimum – only did 3 the whole trip) – but mentally I’m itching to get back to my creative endeavors – lots of inspiration…
