Waiting

Posted in blog | Tagged , , , , , , , , , , | 3 Comments
Ironic that my last blog post was about seeing clearly (or not, as the case may be) as I’m several days post-op now and my vision remains an absolute mess. Not sure if it’s the anesthesia or the anti-nausea patch the docs used to try to keep me from puking when I woke up (side note: it didn’t help. At all.) but at the moment my eyesight is oddly blurry, with or without glasses. It definitely makes it difficult to do anything I might normally do after surgery – e.g. read – as I can’t actually focus on words particularly well. Hopefully it will wear off soon and I’ll be back to whatever is normal for me. Surgery-wise, it was the simple removal of an ovary with an endometriosis cyst that was torsioned up, I guess and a general endometrial scrape, though that turned out to be not as bad… Read more

The World Spins Madly On

So I guess I’m just never destined to blog on a regular basis at this point, but I’ll continue to try. As far as book news goes – the edits for Magpie’s Fall were finally completed a few weeks ago – I’ve gone through them and turned them back over to my editor and it’s currently out for a cold read with a few people. I should have that back shortly and failing any other setbacks, I will have it formatted and ready to go for publication at some point in June (once I know the exact date and the pre-order info and all that I’ll post it ASAP.) Print will most likely follow a short time after that, but my goal here is to get the ebook out as quickly as I can. It’s been a long road and I’m sorry for that, but circumstances were beyond my control… Read more

Creatively Uncreative

Posted in blog | Tagged , , , | 2 Comments
A billion years ago I took a creative writing course in college. And I pretty much hated it. Mostly because everyone in it was a lit major…and I wasn’t. I became a sort of pariah because I wanted to share passages from stories by Charles de Lint or Peter S. Beagle, instead of the proper sorts of “literary” works. In short, I was a genre-monkey – and hearing the professor compare my writing to that of Tolkien was both laughable and sad. Honestly, it’s because no one in the class had any frame of reference to anything fantasy/sci-fi and Tolkien was at least “acceptable” so, there you go. Neither here nor there – genre is what I like reading, and what I like writing – so when I got a call from Connor’s creative writing class teacher last year to come in and chat with her students about…well, whatever it is… Read more

In the Pipe…

Posted in blog | Tagged , , , , , , | 1 Comment
Not quite 5 x 5. Not yet. Yes, it’s an Aliens reference – but it’s been that sort of week. (And I watched it again the other night – it’s one of those comfort movies for me, for some odd reason.) At any rate, radio silence being what it is, I’ve just been completely slammed – the volume of paperwork required for the kids’ summer camps is somewhat baffling, not to mention the crazy amounts of running about, and a fair number of contractors stopping by. (Mostly for estimates, but everyone’s trying to sell something. And really, why is it that nearly every contractor badmouths all the others? “Oh, you should have called me for X. You paid too much for Y.”  No offense, but making the homeowner feel like an ass isn’t the way to get their business. Just saying.) And the dog. The dog. Little miss Maggie, who has… Read more

Routine

Posted in blog | Tagged , , , , , , , | 1 Comment
It’s been a rough couple of weeks over at the Pang house. Between snow days and sick kids, the daily schedule has been upset a little more than I’d like it to be. And then tack on last week, which was nearly a complete waste as I succumbed to a bout of the flu/strep/anemia thing as well that hit me a lot harder than I anticipated. I can write/work through a cold, but you know it’s bad when I don’t want to eat/play video games/read/do anything other than lie there and oh god, someone come put me out of my misery now. (I did, however, stumble upon an anime on Crunchyroll entitled “Our Home’s Fox Deity” – if you thought that sounded like something up my alley, you’d be entirely correct. It’s a bit silly in places and there’s some typical fanservice, but I enjoy realizing that fox spirits are… Read more
