Seeing Clearly

Several days ago I did my normal morning routine, part of which usually includes a new set of daily contacts. No biggie there, but in this case, I had recently ordered a box from my eye doc since I was running out. I grabbed a pair, sat down at my computer, tossed the lenses into my eyes and played a few hours of Assassins Creed: Odyssey. Which is fine. Until I got up and realized I couldn’t see. More to the point, I could see directly in front of me, but everything past a certain distance got immediately blurry, almost as though I wasn’t wearing lenses at all. I found it a bit worrisome, though I have had a few times where I focused too long on tiny things and not had my eyes adjust correctly when I looked back up. But this was a little different. New Year…Win a Thing

I don’t make resolutions for New Years. I’ve never really had much success with that sort of thing – coming up with an arbitrary day to start something – a new process or a dietary regimen or whathaveyou. I mean, the concept is fine – whatever it is you want to do, you have to start somewhere, so the first day of the new year is as good a time to start as any, I suppose. And I’m looking back over the past year with a curious eye – what I did manage to do, what I could have done better – what I want to do this upcoming year. I’m terrible at managing time – no matter how many planners I try to work with, I’m good for a week or so and then it’s like I decide they’re merely guidelines anyway. Creatively Uncreative

A billion years ago I took a creative writing course in college. And I pretty much hated it. Mostly because everyone in it was a lit major…and I wasn’t. I became a sort of pariah because I wanted to share passages from stories by Charles de Lint or Peter S. Beagle, instead of the proper sorts of “literary” works. In short, I was a genre-monkey – and hearing the professor compare my writing to that of Tolkien was both laughable and sad. Honestly, it’s because no one in the class had any frame of reference to anything fantasy/sci-fi and Tolkien was at least “acceptable” so, there you go. Reflections

So first, Happy New Year and all that – though to be honest with the oddly warm weather we’ve been having I can’t say it’s felt much like winter, let alone the holidays. I know we don’t always get snow in Virginia for Christmas, but I’ve been ready to go into hibernation mode for weeks now…and instead I’m wearing shorts. It’s messing with my head a bit. But in all the usual holiday chaos (which is still going on in the form of constant movies, video games, family, cooking and what-have-you) I’ve retreated to the spare bedroom to get anything done – for a number reasons. First, I’ve got a real craving for natural light recently and the setup here is good for that. More importantly is the chair which can recline. Distractions

Well, I haven’t updated in a while. There’s always reasons, I suppose – some are health related, some are holiday related, some are writing related. (And*cough*Dragon Age Inquisition*cough* 1st playthrough was over 130 hours who me?*cough*I romanced the bald egg elf because of course I did*cough* I regret nothing.) That and the office job has been kicking my ass fairly regularly. I used to blog during my lunch hour, but office security has been tightening up as far as online stuff goes – I can’t log into certain IM clients anymore, Sad Sausage Dogs was actually listed as a pr0n site (hello? it’s my web comic?)…and access to this site is also restricted. Oddly enough, I can get to it and I can attempt to create a post – but upon posting, it wigs out and says the site is untrusted and therefore, no. And then I lose everything I’ve written.… Read more
