Geek Princess

Posted in geek, netbook | Leave a comment
So I bought a netbook today. Kind of a mini laptop – it only has a 10 inch screen, but it does have 2 gigs of memory and 160 gig hard drive. No optical drives, but I’ve got an external cd/dvd drive at home so that’s no big deal. Besides, most of what I need to install on it can be done via thumb drive, external HD or downloaded. So, why did I buy it? I already have a beast of a computer at home, and I’m certainly no stranger to the gaming laptop (I’ve owned two Alienwares and a Sager so I know of which I speak – all 10 to 13 pounds of them). I’ve been using my work laptop for travel and writing, but it’s on its last legs. Between the fact that it’s nearly 3 years old and all the scripts/big-brother crap the office keeps pushing… Read more

Big Fish, Little Fish

Posted in craft, pitching, writing | 2 Comments
You know, hanging out at RT and waiting to pitch this past week was a real eye-opener. The more I thought about it, the more I realized that while there is a big difference between being pubbed and not being pubbed, in some ways there’s an even bigger difference in what sort of pubbed author that you are. And that’s not to say anyone was nasty about it at RT, but clearly there does seem to be a line drawn between epubs and hard copy pubs. Whether that’s something that was caused by the big RWA bru-ha-ha a few months ago or just something that’s always sort of been there, I really couldn’t say. I do think there seems to be a misconception about the quality of writing between books that are epubbed and those that are printed and that’s a shame. I won’t lie – I *do* prefer hard… Read more

Shinies

Well technically it’s just *a* shiny. Because I’m horribly vain and arrogant, I commissioned Darchala to draw me up a nice picture of Abby & Brystion. The HK panties were her idea. 😉 It’s utterly huge – a whopping 20 x 20 inches and I’m absolutely in love with it. Soon to be printed and framed and set on the floor to be hung up 100 years from now because I utterly suck.… Read more

…Home again, home again, jiggity jig…

And I’m back. Interesting day overall yesterday. Didn’t go to the Mr. Romance contest. It was actually more fun to sit at the pool bar in the lovely sunshine and edit. And really, between Smart Bitches and Heather Osborn twitting the whole thing every 30 seconds (including pics), it was way better than being there. Snark has *no* better mistresses. I did go to the Author Book Sign/Fair thing and met quite a few people. I did *not* meet Piers Anthony – I seem to have missed him, but roomie said he was a bit of a grumper, so maybe that’s ok. Did see Angela Knight, but skipped her too – I’ve been a bit let down by her attitude since I took a KoD workshop with her. Maybe it’s just me. Met Barry Eisler and chatted with him for a while. He seemed rather bemused to learn that he’d… Read more

Last Day

Posted in RT | 1 Comment
Wah, pictures. You can just see the tip of my ear from this angle. Working on a getting some more. Think someone tagged me on Facebook, but I have to find out who/where. Also looking from some full body – I know the RT staff took some. Anyway, Vampire ball was *way* cooler overall – and much, much, much better music. 3 hours of dancing? No prob. Two hours at the bar? Yup. Hot tub? Sorta. People seem to have found it and it was extremely crowded last night so we just stopped and dipped our feet in it. And then I was up until 3 something debating erotica with the roomies. My last pitch went very well – got a full manuscript request from Tor, as well as a synopsis request for the next two books. I will be editing and polishing my ass off for the next few… Read more
