I’ve got my cranky pants on today, but I did want to share a few things. First of all, I’m over at Word Whores today, talking about some my early literary influences – The Jungle Book and Chronicles of Narnia being the big two. Otherwise, I wanted to share this video: On Your Mark – Chage & Aska from bahimas on Vimeo. I hadn’t seen it before, but I really love Miyazaki, and I just adore the way this story plays out and relationships between the men and the angel. Just…perfect.… Read more
Lucy and I have caught the plague today – so sickly cuddles all the way around. I spent most of the weekend in my PJs, completely exhausted and just dozing off wherever I was. I originally thought my body was finally being allowed to relax, but now I suspect it was more a harbinger of the blinding pain in the back of my skull. Not exactly the auspicious start to the new celestial year I was hoping for, but at least I caught up on my sleep a bit. (And my cross-stitch – I broke that out for the first time in ages, just to give my eyes a break from the computer.) Ah well. My only claim to the Year of the Dragon is the fact that the Chinese symbol for dragon is in my last name. (Surrounded by the Chinese word for veil. I always thought it would… Read more
I’m supposed to be lying on the beach right now. Or really, I should be having a delicious dinner *after* lying on the beach all day. But, thanks to a certain hurricane sweeping up the East Coast on the ONE WEEKEND I was going to go to the beach this summer…not so much. So, mr myn and I dropped the kids off at daycare and just had a day. Small errands. Went out to lunch. Bought a shirt at Old Navy. Saw Captain America. Visited a car audio store. (Long and short answer is…I don’t like the speakers in the new car. There actually *is* a subwoofer there already. And it sucks. Will probably get a whole new set of speakers and a real sub. I hate to be a music snob. I do. But I spend so much time sitting in traffic in my car and the music is… Read more
So during the Literacy Signing at RWA a few weeks ago, I had a lovely fan (hi, Sarah!) show up for a signed copy of my book. She told me she read my blog every day. My first reaction was that I wanted to hug her and tell her I was sorry. (I didn’t do this.) My second reaction was to blink stupidly and smile. “Awesome!” (This is the reaction I went for. Probably better and less likely to get me a lawsuit.) But honestly it was an odd mix of flattery (“holy crap! someone reads my shit!”) to panic (“holy crap! someone reads my shit!”) Blogs are strange beasts – like online diaries that anyone can read. (And really, what’s the point, otherwise?) There’s something very freeing about it. Even though intrinsically I know other people can and do read it, it still surprises me when someone emails me and says… Read more
