Random Weekly Update

Posted in contest, random, synopsis, updates | 1 Comment
I’m not much good at doing weekly updates, but felt like one today. I have not gotten much writing down this week – about 2800 words, all told – which is lousy by my current standards, but I did manage to at least edit my first two chapters for SotI and barf up a 3 page synopsis. (Special thanks and hugs to Jeffe, Kendris, AK, La-Tessa and JET for being my sounding board the last few weeks. I’m sure I drove you all crazy but it is sooo very much appreciated! And all those lovely people on Facebook for giving me encouragement too.) The point behind the editing was to prep up for a contest entry. I’m not really all that fond of contests, but I thought it might be good practice as far as synopsis writing goes. I know I need to learn the finer points of that, and… Read more

Too Much Realism?

Posted in cops, rant, realism | 2 Comments
I’m married to a cop. That’s not a complaint – just a statement of fact, really – but it’s funny to me how many author types say that I should write a romance with a law enforcement official of some kind, simply because I have so much to draw from. (That whole write what you know thing, I guess). The problem here isn’t that I don’t have enough info or that I couldn’t come up with a good story, but it’s really not anything I want to write about. I write stories to escape as much as anything else – why would I ever want to write about what I deal with on a daily basis?? That’s rhetorical, I suppose – cops are glamorized for good or for bad, just like every other blue collar position out there – EMT, firefighter, etc. Their concept make good heroes – large, brawny… Read more

Shoes!

Posted in funky, procrastination, random, shoes | 1 Comment
Yay! In my quest for purple sparkly shoes for my Faery costume (which I found, they just haven’t arrived yet), I stumbled across some lovely polka dotted glitter Chuck Taylors. They don’t go with much, but you know, I’m a bit of a whore when it comes to the glitter. And after the last few weeks at work, I decided I wasn’t going to deny myself this latest bit of frippery. So here they are: Oh, and here’s me sort of working them. Sort of. I’m not fond of the way I photograph, but really, who cares?? It’s not the most flattering of angles, but hey, I’m wearing’em.… Read more

Pitching

Posted in craft, pitching, tentacle dick | 1 Comment
Ha! I’m still hoping to pitch to *someone* at RT at the end of April, but I’m starting to realize my chances of having the WiP done by then are probably nonexistent. Actually, I might have the rough done, but it certainly won’t be edited enough for any kind of submission. Which isn’t really the point of pitching anyway – as far as I understand, you don’t actually show up with a finished manuscript – you just ‘pitch’ the idea and if the agent/editor/publisher or whoever likes it, they tell you to send them a few chapter or whatever. Doesn’t mean anything except that it’s no longer an unsolicited manuscript, so in theory, you have a better shot. So I’ll need to practice that, I guess. On the other hand, I have to admit I feel like a total doofus trying to explain the ins and outs of my story… Read more

Random Whining.

Posted in home, moody, random, whining | 2 Comments
You know, I’m definitely feeling a tad moody today, so I suppose I’ll just run with it for now. Again, I thought I had something much more intelligent to talk about today, but it’s not in me at the moment, so maybe this will help instead, aimless as it may be. It’s going to be cryptic, and that’s ok. I know what I mean and I suppose that’s all that counts. There’s a saying that you can’t go home again, and I suppose that’s true. Home doesn’t even have to be a specific place, I don’t think. It can be a feeling or a state of mind, maybe. I have a tendency to look back at the past as a sort of home, memories blurring until all I can remember are the good things, or maybe I’m just seeing them with rose-colored glasses. Seeing what I want to see. I… Read more
