Brimming

Ever have one of those days where you’re just filled with ideas and yet you already know there’s just not enough time to get to them all? Certainly not within the normal day-to-day constraints of life, anyway. It’s a bit depressing. That’s me today, though that’s compounded a bit by having stayed up too late to watch Cabin in the Woods (eh – I was really hoping it would be better then it was after all the hype) and also attempting to go off caffeine. Or at least soda. It’s making me extremely cranky. And tired. Tired enough that I bailed from work for 15 minutes to go crash in my car at lunch and I *never* do that. But that’s okay. It’s more about an ever growing list of “crap that needs to get done” and trying to balance that with “crap I’d like to do.” Subtle difference, but… Read more

Entitlement

Posted in blog | Tagged , , , | 2 Comments
So the buzzword of the day is Entitlement. And no, I’m not getting into the Mitt Romney thing. I don’t discuss politics here – I just don’t have the energy for it.  (This picture is awesome, btw – go check out Sarah Burrini’s website to download the free wallpaper) But I did want to talk a little bit about what happened in the writer-sphere. A few days ago, an agent was attacked by an alleged disgruntled writer. The investigation is still ongoing so until real details come out, we’ve just got the overall speculation that a rejected writer took it upon himself to stalk the agent in question and attack her in her car. (Lucky for her, her dog bit him and drove him off. Police were able to pick up the suspect based off the address the query letter and sure enough, he had a dog bite on his… Read more

Old School Gaming Redux

Posted in blog | Tagged , , , , | 1 Comment
Ironic that I’m posting about games today, what with my decision to close down my gaming forum. (And yeah, I’m already flip-flopping about that – the good bye thread is killing me as I watch people try to find another place to go. Le sigh. I can feel my resolve crumbling as I type this. Maybe I’ll just overhaul it?) Anyway, the Extended Edition of Baldur’s Gate was supposed to be released tomorrow. It’s not now – the date has been pushed back until November. I’m a tad disappointed, but I also understand – and I’d rather have BeamDog take the extra time to do things right then try to make up for lost ground later.  After all, there’s a lot riding on it and you only get one chance to make a first impression. (And the expectations that I’m seeing on their forums are HIGH. Lots of history to… Read more

In My Basement, No One Can Hear You Scream

There’s a scene in Aliens (one of my favorite movies  ever, btw) where Ripley heads down to the substation area to rescue Newt. She comes across the Alien Queen and there appears to be this little  head game going on where the Queen seems to allow Ripley to take the girl. (After Ripley displays the might of her flame-thrower/M41-A Pulse Rifle.) The Queen waves off her little workers and Ripley starts backing away. Except right before they leave, one of the Face-hugger eggs opens up. And Ripley gives the Queen this “Oh, hell no” look and then sets fire to the whole place. Hilarity ensues. (Honestly, I’ve been scouring you-tube for that clip and I can’t very many clips from the movie, alas.) My point being? If I had a flame-thrower, I’d set fire to my house and walk away. Let’s take a look at the events of this week,… Read more

Word Whore ~ Fox & Willow Thursday

Okay – first off, the big announcement is that I’m officially allowed to talk about the Carniepunk anthology now. So yay! (And no, the picture here has NOTHING to do with me or the anthology, but it’s fabulous and very apropos. It’s  called Fire Within Me and was created by the massively talented AF-Studios, so go check out the gallery on DA.) The Publisher’s Marketplace listing: CARNIEPUNK, an anthology which combines the carnival setting and the world of urban fantasy, a place of deception, where monsters wait silently in the dark, featuring short stories by authors Rachel Caine, Jennifer Estep, Seanan McGuire, Rob Thurman, Delilah Dawson, Kelly Gay, Kevin Hearne, Mark Henry, Hillary Jacques, Jackie Kessler, Kelly Meding, Allison Pang, Nicole Peeler and Jaye Wells, to Adam Wilson at Pocket, for publication in August 2013, by Suzie Townsend at New Leaf Literary & Media. I’m super excited to be a… Read more
