Glimpses

I’m going to continue my fine track record of never really reviewing books today by mentioning that Glimpses, by Lynn Flewelling, is out this week. If you’re a fan of the Nightrunner series, you won’t want to miss this  professionally published short story collection, which contains a number of pieces (and fan-illustrations) that help fill in the gaps of some of the lives of the characters. For any true fan, most of these stories have been alluded to over the course of the novels, but it’s nice to see some of them finally getting a chance to shine. The stories range from Seregil’s experiences after exile (including when he first meets Micum), as well as the story behind what happened with Alec’s parents. Hook Me Up…

You know, it’s probably not a good sign that mr myn was driven to purchase me fake energy blood this weekend. But there it is. Of course, he also bought me a Hello Kitty T-shirt, so all is forgiven.. Not sure I’m going to drink it, but I suspect it will make for a nice conversation piece in the office, so that’s where it’s going to go. I will say I find it a tad disturbing that they actually have to put a warning on it that it shouldn’t *really* be used intravenously. Or for a transfusion.  Though I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised. God knows, whenever *I’m* looking for some fresh O Neg, I run right down to the nearest Hot Topic.… Read more

Comparisons

The problem with writing the draft of a sequel when you’re also going over the first pass pages of the first book, is that the draft starts looking crappier as you go. Or at least, that’s what I’m finding, anyway. And yes, the rational part of my brain continues to insist that the original draft for BoD wasn’t that great either, but memories have a way of being a bit hazy, especially when the brain is confronted by the finished product. And it’s probably not fair to compare the polished and edited piece of something that’s close to going to print with the sometimes rambly and random sentences that are attempting to make up a solid second story  – one that seems to be changing as I go. HOA Hell

So, we got dinged by our HOA this week. 1) You can see our trash cans from the street. They’re at the top of our driveway. Right outside the garage. Where they’ve been for about…oh, that’s right. Five Freaking YEARS. Never mind that yeah, we probably should have been keeping the cans in the garage this whole time. In fact, since we moved here, just about everyone else on the cul-de-sac started keeping their trash cans by their garage too. Trend setters, that’s us. Though really what it comes down to is I don’t like keeping trash cans inside my house. At all. Not even my garage. Suppose we’ll have to now, though. Funny thing is, we got dinged about the same thing almost four years ago. Just a nasty gram in the mail about it. And then…nothing. 2) We have weeds in our front garden.
