I’m in the final bits of this round of revisions. It’s a heady feeling. Partially because I’m almost done. Partially because I’m not entirely sure how it ends. Which probably sounds a bit odd. I’ve got a fair idea of what’s going to happen, based on the other changes I’ve made, but I think I’m just going to have to see what the characters do when I get there. In other news, I was hit over the head and asked if I might like to present the PRISM awards for the FF&P Gathering at National this year. Which sounds more grand than it is. Not that the awards aren’t awesome, because they are. Just that I only got asked because the contest coordinators can’t make it this year, and seeing as I’m the web person for FF&P (and therefore spent some time coding the site for the contest), they thought…

Pajama Jeans

I have to admit I suspected WTFkery when I first saw them. (Courtesy of Mr myn, who actually snagged me a pair for Mother’s Day.) Because they’re pajamas! But they’re also jeans! Jeans you can sleep in. They have pockets with rivets, but no front zipper. Is a puzzlement. But I’ve decided that they are actually pure genius. And clearly made for moms.** Or writers. Or gamers. Or people who have a tendency to stay up too late and fall sleep in their clothes. *cough* Why so awesome? Because they’re soft enough that they feel pretty comfortable, but on the other hand, I can answer the door in them without feeling like I’m still in my…pajamas? Which probably doesn’t make much sense, but if you’ve ever been awakened at 6 am to make pancakes for munchkins after 3 hours of sleep, you’ll probably get it. It’s like – okay, I’m…

Cackling Grackles

Generally speaking, the rule of thumb when you see a baby bird on the ground is to walk on by. Particularly if they’re just hopping around by themselves – it usually means it’s a fledgling and mom & dad are somewhere nearby, continuing to take care of it. In this case, however – my little grackle friend isn’t quite there yet. He can hop around a little bit, but his pinions are still coming in and he’s pretty unsteady on his feet. Connor and mr myn found him yesterday evening when they went out to play ball. It appeared his nest had been blown out of the tree and his sibling was lying dead in the grass. (Looks like he just froze/starved to death, but I’m not sure.) The remains of another bird were also under the tree – maybe another sibling, but it was much smaller – I suspect…

Great Wolf Lodge WTFkery…and Happy Mother’s Day!

We took a little family vacation to Great Wolf Lodge this weekend. Technically we’re still here, in fact, but I’ve pulled Mother’s Day rank this morning and am vigorously guarding our things at table. And blogging. Not that I didn’t have fun yesterday, but I went down a few too many water slides and the back is letting me know I may have overdone it a bit. Plus, I’m dry and nicely showered and we’ve had to check out, so I’m not really wanting to get back in the water. At any rate, we drove down to Richmond on Friday night to hang with my brother and his family (and they came with us to the Lodge – we shared one of those mega-suites that sleeps 8 to save a few bucks.) Saturday morning mr myn took us to Williamsburg for a bit – and showed us his old stomping…
