Pensive

Posted in blog, forum, pensive | Leave a comment
About six years ago, I started an online forum. It was a spin off of a gaming site known as Ladies of Neverwinter (which is now defunct). My reasons for creating the site were several, but the main reason was that LoN was shut down shortly after I found it. I’d barely scratched the surface of what an online community could be, and I had enough tech savvy to start up my own. So I did. I got a webhost and a domain name and figured out enough php and mysql to get phpbb up and running and off I went. A lot of it was a great learning experience. There’s a large balancing act when you’re a forum admin, particularly on a subject that many people are passionate about. (In this case, gaming. At the time everyone was about Neverwinter Nights and Baldur’s Gate.) There was fanfic, fan art,… Read more

Word Whore Thursday: The Methods to My Madness

Posted in blog | Tagged , , | Leave a comment
I’m over at Word Whores today talking a little bit about my writing process – the whole pantster vs plotter argument, though I’m not really sure I have much of a method these days. All you have to do is comment about which cross-over you’d like to see between your favorite characters from whatever series you like. Anyone up for an Abby and Bones pairing? LOL In other bits of random news, I do have tentative release dates for the sequels to Brush of Darkness – which will be March 2012 and October 2012, respectively. No titles or anything yet, but I’ll obviously post more more when I know it. (And yes, I have to get an FAQ up on… Read more

Fools Rush In: Whither the State of Publishing?

Posted in blog | Tagged , | Leave a comment
I’ve often found Tarot cards to be useful tools – for writing, for soul-searching, for fun. The Fool has always struck me as a card of potential. Is he so absorbed with his own thoughts that he isn’t paying attention to the cliff he’s about to walk off? Is the dog warning him? Attempting to push him off? Is there another path we aren’t seeing? Or does the fool take the leap of faith to reap whatever rewards or failures await? Note the staff upon his shoulders, the red bag a representation of his earthly belongings (or perhaps emotional ones). Are they holding him back? Or symbolizing his need to be free? And yet, the stick may also be used for balance as he traverses the edge. The last few days in the publishing world have been in a bit of an upheaval. One moment, we learn about self-publishing queen Amanda Hocking… Read more
