Word Whore ~ Fox and Willow Thursday

Posted in blog | Tagged , , | 4 Comments
Well, clearly I’ve been a bit lax in my blogging the last few days. I have my excuses – yesterday was my birthday (which is why I’m sharing this beautiful drawing by Aimo – I’m so floored by its level of epic win. I really am.) My birthday celebration was pretty low-key. My coworker’s daughter baked me a cake and last night just involved pizza and a watching of The Hunger Games. (Hadn’t seen it before and haven’t read the books, though I will now. Though I debate the wisdom of letting the six-year old watch it. Probably going to regret that – she really had a tough time with Rue’s death.) I realize that it probably sounds like a lame sort of birthday, but I just wanted a night with the family and some mindless fun.  My back pain has increased dramatically the last week or so and I… Read more

Monday, Monday

I’m working from home today, awaiting a vanity. Back in March and April the DH attempted to redo our bathroom himself…and actually did a fabulous job. We were all set to start working on the other bathrooms over the summer. Until the great shower debacle set things back. No, my shower still isn’t fixed. Yes, we’re going to hire a professional to do it. No, we’re not afraid of tackling a larger project…but time is becoming a bit of a factor, and essentially we’re going to have to rebuild the entire thing from scratch (walls, shower pan, new door, etc.), so we’re just going to toss some money at a professional. We’re still going to at least redo the kids bathroom ourselves though, hence me waiting for the vanity today. (“We’ll deliver it sometime between midnight and fuck up your whole day, ha ha!”) In the meantime, I’m trying to… Read more

School Days

Posted in blog | Tagged , | 13 Comments
Okay – I’m probably going to get a little ranty here. I’m trying to be the good mom and get the school supplies a few weeks early. Last year I sort of forgot and let me tell you – there is nothing more pathetic than watching parents scavenge over the last few packages of loose leaf at the local Target. No one looks at each other, because to make eye contact means admitting you suck as a parent. (Or indicating that you’re perfectly willing to shiv someone for that last package of 24 count crayons. Gotta be Crayola though. Not that Rose Hill bullshit.) Anyway, I swear it must be some sort of conspiracy between the teachers and the supply packagers, because without a doubt, the teacher will want X amount of something…which is always packaged as X + 1 amount, or X-1. Which means I always end up with… Read more

Word Whore ~ Fox and Willow Thursday: Con News

Posted in blog | Tagged , , , | 2 Comments
Today has been a bit of a busy day for a number of reasons. First up, I’m over at Word Whores, talking a little bit about promo. (And specifically about something called Shindig. Keep an eye out about that because I’m going to host some sort of Trace of Moonlight online party or something with it as we get closer to release date.  Everyone’s invited, yo.) And of course,  a new page of Fox and Willow is up, so go check that out. But the big news is that I got on a panel for NYCC. I don’t know what sort of small animals my editor had to sacrifice in order to make this happen, but I’m eternally grateful. It’s a UF panel about mixing up mythology (I’ll throw some more details up as we get closer to it), but it will include fellow Reluctant Adults Kevin Hearne and Anton Strout, as well… Read more

Not much of a post today – it’s lousy on the pain scale. Don’t know if it’s a result of traveling or what, but I’m not happy about it. (And for me to have taken painkillers 3 days in a row is NOT a good sign. I generally avoid most medications, but the pain and stiffness have been brutal. I go to the back doc tomorrow – we’ll see what happens. I suspect he’ll try another injection of sorts, but if I don’t get any relief, I’m going to suggest we do a discogram – which will hurt, but might give us some real answers as to what’s going on.) Anyway, not to ramble on about my back issues, my main thought here was actually how nice it was to go back to that short story after a week of leaving it fallow…and discovering it was better than I thought.… Read more
