 I have a hard time letting go of things. Those of you who know me, or who have followed along with the blog know what I’m talking about. Jeffe and I had a conversation about it via IM the other night, in fact, and she mentioned that the Chinese see everything in a cycle of 5: Birth -> Growth -> Maturation -> Decline -> Death. And of course, this concept could apply to anything – ideas, jobs, relationships, whatever. We decided that I had the biggest problem with Decline. Whether or not that’s because I’m afraid of Death, I’m not entirely sure. Though, maybe that’s not right either. But I know I have a tendency to hold on to things. Change can be very painful for me. Off-Roading? Not So Much.

I’ll write more about my trip later. Suffice it to say, hard-core off-roading is NEVER going to be my thing. Hiking? Sure. Horseback riding? You bet. Pitting myself in a contest of man vs. nature in a metal box grinding its way up a creek of boulders that were quite obviously put there for a reason by God? No. Plus it was like 90 degrees and no AC. And two cranky, hot kids in the back. For over 8 hours. Oh look. Here’s David Garrett. Official and Stuff

First off, I just want to give a big shout out to Darchala for putting up with my artistic demands. (She’s running a contest on DA, btw, so go check it out if you’re the artsy sort.) She was also kind enough to draw me this sketch of Melanie, one of my secondary characters in Brush of Darkness (though I suspect she’s got enough character of her own to warrant her own book at some point. I’d love to do it anyway.) Anyway, the reason I brought it up is because my official website is now technically up, although woefully thin on content. But stop by Heart of the Dreaming if you would. It’s still a work in progress in places, but if you find any bugs or issues, please let me know. (And Dar did the awesome banner at the top of Abby, Brystion and Phin, so big *hugs*… Read more

Outlines and Updates

I finally managed to get my outline finished last night. (Yeah, I guess I tend to cut it close.) But the key thing is that it is done and I have something to aim for. And seeing as I have to finish and polish the MS up by November, that doesn’t leave me a huge amount of time. The good thing is that 40k has already been written – bits will have to be changed here and there, specifically because the circumstances of Brush of Darkness changed- but it’s doable. I have to say that writing an outline really is a challenge for me. There are places where I might have considered fleshing out some of the ideas, but I didn’t really want to. Lego Land

Connor turned 7 yesterday. Not that that’s an excuse for not blogging. (I reserve the right to NOT blog when my Outline is due in two days. Which doesn’t really explain why I’m doing it now, except I really like blogging.) Okay, back to the point, which was Connor’s birthday. We had his actual party on Saturday, but the end result of said party was lots of Lego Star Wars stuff. And not just the little kits, either. Which meant that most of my day on Sunday was putting them together. (And playing Lego Star Wars/Lego Harry Potter on the XBox. Did I say Outline? Bah. I’ve got Storm Trooper arms to pull off.)
