Grumpy.

Not much of an update, but I couldn’t think of very much to blog about today. It’s snowing again. School has been closed for the rest of the week and I’m fairly sure we’re going to be losing power again tomorrow. (They are talking major winds tomorrow on top of the snow.) My back is utterly killing me tonight. I made it into work for a few hours today and went to my acupuncturist. Her husband is PT guy, so he worked my back out, but as I tried to explain to him, when the muscles get like this, ultrasound and heat/stim just don’t do anything. Painkillers don’t work. Muscle relaxants don’t work. I think I’m going to insist on getting another MRI next week when I go back to the doc, but I admit I’m getting a tad worried because the muscle cramps and deep radiating pain I’m getting… Read more

Snowed In.

I’m not entirely sure how much snow we got, but let’s just say over 30 inches and then some. However, I’d like to give a nice shout out to my neighbors for taking pity and digging me out this afternoon. Much obliged and there’s a gift card to a very nice restaurant coming your way shortly. 🙂 And no, I’m not a lazy sod who won’t shovel snow, but given the amount and the back issues, there’s not a chance I’m going to try it unless it’s a real emergency.  Mr Myn was gone all weekend as the police force put the shifts up in a nearby hotel so as to minimize travel, but finally came back late this afternoon (and helped out the neighbors as well). Snowpocalypse Now!

Okay, I’m wearing out the snow jokes like no-one’s business, yes. However – the picture there on the left was from Wednesday. We got maybe 5 inches of snow on top of what was left from the last snowfall. So, just enough to make things fun as you can see by the happy little snowman there. (Fruitsnacks for eyes and mouth, whee.)  I’m only posting it for perspective, you understand. After the weather people got everyone all riled up on Thursday about the snow coming, almost all the schools in the area closed preemptively, before anything even started falling out of the sky. But that’s the DC area for you. It’s like people forget what snow looks like from year to year. There’s always all these stupid news reports on “How to Keep Warm” and “Where to Buy a Snow Shovel”. Sequels and Success

Yesterday I started reading another sequel by an author that I used to love. And by the second chapter I was ready to claw my eyes out. The writing was wretched, but more than that, there just seemed to be this attitude of…smugness, I guess. A self-serving sort of feel to it that just grated on my nerves. Now, this particular author has a lot of books out, and a blog that I read sometimes. And she is on Twitter and Facebook too. And I’d be inclined to think that may be part of the source of my disdain for the book – maybe she’s revealed a little too much of herself, and I’ve come to dislike what I’ve seen.
