WTF Wednesday

Posted in blog | Tagged , | Leave a comment
I can honestly say there is probably nothing more awesome than an inflatable unicorn horn for cats. I particularly like how the box proclaims that cats love it. Cats also love scratching furniture and eviscerating small mammals.  (One of my cats used to be inherently fond of dragging my bathrobe around the house and humping the shit out of it.) Just sayin’. But, yes, it’s real and available at Archie McPhee. I’m probably going to get one.… Read more

WTFkery Friday (sorta NSFW and involving panties)

Posted in blog | Tagged , , , | Leave a comment
It’s been a while since I found something suitable for a good dose of WTFkery. This one is a bit NSFW and the dudebro readers might want to skip this. *ahem* Anyway, I think the picture sorta says it all (and special thanks to Tumblr. Where would I be without your random amounts of wtfkery?) I would probably wear these (*eyeballs the unicorn and Dawn of the Red*) – if you’re interested, check them out over at Hairbrained Design.  Assuming you’re even still reading after these lovely pictures, I’m happy to announce that A Trace of Moonlight got 4 stars over at RT: A Trace of Moonlight is a testament to the significance of sacrifice: Abby Sinclair gives up her life, Talivar gives up his family and Brystion and Phineas (the hilarious mini-unicorn) give up a part of themselves in order to stop a mortal from ruining the world they’ve… Read more

Measurements and Limitations (Plus Bonus NSFW Egg WTFkry.)

Posted in blog | Tagged , , | 2 Comments
Couldn’t really think of anything in particular to really blog about today. I ended up going to two doctor appointments – one for a growing sinus infection (a week long headache is too long, thanks), and one for the back doc. I was supposed to get another round of shots, actually – but I declined. Oddly enough, the last few weeks, the spine has been fairly stable. I’m not sure why – I’m not doing anything different, and the two weeks before that I was a total mess. Painkillers every day. And then –  *poof*  – things aligned and the pain lessened. It didn’t stop. Nothing ever *really* stops it, but when you live in chronic discomfort you do find that certain levels are more tolerable than others.  I’ve even stopped going to the chiro as much.  I don’t know. Over-manipulation is probably just as bad as not manipulating it enough and… Read more

Making the Point for Us: Tropes vs Women In Video Games WTFKery

Posted in blog | Tagged , , , | 6 Comments
I almost didn’t get around to posting today – after all, copy edits needed to be handed in and the Guild Wars 2 Beta is live and that’s what I’ll be running off to do in a bit. However, I did want to mention the Kickstarter project by Anita Sarkeesian: Tropes vs Women in Video Games. The idea is fairly broad and fascinating – but simply put, she plans on doing a series of videos based on the way women are portrayed in video games. (Which I ranted about a bit earlier this week.) I love playing video games but I’m regularly disappointed in the limited and limiting ways women are represented.  This video project will explore, analyze and deconstruct some of the most common tropes and stereotypes of female characters in games.  The series will highlight the larger reoccurring patterns and conventions used within the gaming industry rather than just… Read more

Tuesday Morning Shiny

Posted in blog | Tagged , , , , , , | 1 Comment
I’m stuck working from home today with freaked out nerve and hoping a day of ice will calm it down, so today’s post is just going to be full of silly things that make me laugh. First off is this lovely Abby/Brystion sketchcard by Aimo, commissioned as a gift for Danielle.  (And no, it doesn’t make me laugh, but it sure does make me smile.) You know what else makes me smile? Looking at the proofs for the Fox & Willow comic! We’re so close to starting it up (next week!) and I can’t wait to start posting it – Aimo has truly outdone herself. The artwork is fabulous (and I only hope my storytelling abilities do it justice.) Otherwise, a few other bits of random wtfkery… For some reason I can’t stop playing it. It’s so messed up, and yet so terribly catchy. And then I’ve got this lovely… Read more
