In the Pipe…

Not quite 5 x 5. Not yet. Yes, it’s an Aliens reference – but it’s been that sort of week. (And I watched it again the other night – it’s one of those comfort movies for me, for some odd reason.) At any rate, radio silence being what it is, I’ve just been completely slammed – the volume of paperwork required for the kids’ summer camps is somewhat baffling, not to mention the crazy amounts of running about, and a fair number of contractors stopping by. (Mostly for estimates, but everyone’s trying to sell something. And really, why is it that nearly every contractor badmouths all the others? “Oh, you should have called me for X. You paid too much for Y.”  No offense, but making the homeowner feel like an ass isn’t the way to get their business. Just saying.) And the dog. The dog. Little miss Maggie, who has… Read more

Routine

Posted in blog | Tagged , , , , , , , | 1 Comment
It’s been a rough couple of weeks over at the Pang house. Between snow days and sick kids, the daily schedule has been upset a little more than I’d like it to be. And then tack on last week, which was nearly a complete waste as I succumbed to a bout of the flu/strep/anemia thing as well that hit me a lot harder than I anticipated. I can write/work through a cold, but you know it’s bad when I don’t want to eat/play video games/read/do anything other than lie there and oh god, someone come put me out of my misery now. (I did, however, stumble upon an anime on Crunchyroll entitled “Our Home’s Fox Deity” – if you thought that sounded like something up my alley, you’d be entirely correct. It’s a bit silly in places and there’s some typical fanservice, but I enjoy realizing that fox spirits are… Read more

Hanging Out in Silence

Posted in blog | Tagged , , , | 1 Comment
There’s this saying about friends and relationships – how the best ones are often punctuated by periods of comfortable silence. Not that it’s not great to chat and laugh and talk, but there’s something just as nice when there’s a natural lull in conversation and there’s no great rush to fill it. (And there’s a difference between comfortable and tension filled. I’ve been party to both and the latter is really uncool.) There’s a completely different sort of silence when the kids or pets are involved. Quiet is good. Silence is BAD. Like you just know that jar of Vaseline was opened and is now smeared all over the the carpet of a bedroom. (Fair cop – I did this when I was two. This sort of silence is *terrifying*) In today’s world of social media, silence feels like a lost art. We’re all so busy shouting our business to… Read more

Still Here

It’s occurred to me the last few weeks that I’ve been fairly neglectful of the blog as of late. Mostly because I’ve been recovering from the surgery – I’m not sure I realized just how intensive it was going to be. I’d actually started writing up blog posts a few times, only to just let them sit in the drafts, simply because I was too tired to continue. (I did pick back up on Tumblr, though. Apparently reblogging kittens and naked men with a click of a button is a bit easier than forming coherent thoughts.) Surgery-wise, I’m cautiously optimistic.  While the pre-surgical pain is gone, I’m not quite ready to celebrate just yet. After all, it’s only been about 4 weeks – my last surgery failed at the 6-week mark, so I’m just continuing to take it easy. (Though out patient PT will start up in the next week… Read more

Odds and Ends

Posted in blog | Tagged , , , | 2 Comments
I can tell this is going to be one of those odd weeks. Things keep disappearing. Stuff keeps breaking. Money is being spent like water. And there’s not really anything I can do about it. My sunglasses will show up with they like, I suppose, though I’m a tad irritated at the DH’s wedding band. Hopefully we’ll find that tonight. And before the jokes start up, yes, he takes it off during the day job rather frequently – mostly because he doesn’t want the criminal sorts to know he’s married. It’s sort of like sitting down in a restaurant and realizing that you arrested the busboy last week and hoping there won’t be any revenge spitting going on. Have I mentioned being married to a cop isn’t quite like the romance books make it out to be? (One day, I will write an actual cop romance and no one will… Read more
