Trying to Lock Up the Cloud

Posted in blog | Tagged , | Leave a comment
A story came out a few weeks ago about how this guy basically had his entire online life stolen and his computer and iphone bricked. It’s a crazy story, but definitely highlights some of the major flaws with storing one’s entire life in the “cloud.” (Some of the security holes have now been “fixed” – if you believe Amazon, anyway. The problem with having human gatekeepers for some of this stuff is that humans are…human. And don’t always follow procedure. But still.) The story still freaked me out a bit, especially considering that I’ve been getting a lot of “We see you’ve forgotten your password” emails from Facebook recently. Clearly *someone* is attempting to hack me.  Random? Maybe. Or maybe not. I’m not anyone special, but as an author I’ve got a tremendous amount tied into these social networks.  I start getting hacked and there’s an awful lot to lose.… Read more

Word Whore ~ Fox and Willow Thursday

Posted in blog | Tagged , , , , , , | Leave a comment
I’m at a few places today – Word-Whores to start with, of course. This week it’s all about rejections…and specifically the best rejections we’ve ever received. (I suspect my fellow word-whores have some better tales to tell, as I don’t have too many). I’m also over at Pocket After Dark with an interview about writing and gaming and unicorns, all things near and dear to my geeky little heart, so check that out if you get the chance. (It’s a bit silly, but then…so am I, so it’s all good.) And of course, Fox & Willow updates today as well. Incidentally we’re looking to do some affiliate link swapping, so if you’ve got a web comic and you’d like do a mutual link, please let me know! Last thing of note – I’m trolling for tickets to World Fantasy Con. I’m definitely going, but I’ve got a few friends who missed… Read more

Blog Tour!

Posted in blog | Tagged , , , | 1 Comment
Okay guys – I’ve been getting emails like crazy about review copies and interviews, etc. for A Trace of Moonlight, so I’m happy to announce the sign-up for the blog tour is now live. Head over to Betwitching Book Tours to sign up. 🙂   (The actual blog tour will be from October 16th – November 14th.) Please note, I’m going to be doing less guest posts this time around – between NYCC and WFC within a two-week time span of each other (and heading to WFC the day after  A Trace of Moonlight releases) I’m going to be crazy busy. 🙂 Incidentally, if you want to help spread the word about A Trace of Moonlight’s release date, feel free to grab the countdown widget on the right sidebar and put it on your own sites. Here’s the code: <script type=”text/javascript” src=””></script><script type=”text/javascript”>if (WIDGETBOX) WIDGETBOX.renderWidget(‘f4027892-24d9-43b5-810e-f15ddab1b1b0’);</script> <noscript>Get the <a href=”https://www.widgetbox.com/i/f4027892-24d9-43b5-810e-f15ddab1b1b0″>Countdown Creator… Read more

Word Whore ~ Fox and Willow Thursday

Posted in blog | Tagged , , | 4 Comments
Well, clearly I’ve been a bit lax in my blogging the last few days. I have my excuses – yesterday was my birthday (which is why I’m sharing this beautiful drawing by Aimo – I’m so floored by its level of epic win. I really am.) My birthday celebration was pretty low-key. My coworker’s daughter baked me a cake and last night just involved pizza and a watching of The Hunger Games. (Hadn’t seen it before and haven’t read the books, though I will now. Though I debate the wisdom of letting the six-year old watch it. Probably going to regret that – she really had a tough time with Rue’s death.) I realize that it probably sounds like a lame sort of birthday, but I just wanted a night with the family and some mindless fun.  My back pain has increased dramatically the last week or so and I… Read more

Monday, Monday

I’m working from home today, awaiting a vanity. Back in March and April the DH attempted to redo our bathroom himself…and actually did a fabulous job. We were all set to start working on the other bathrooms over the summer. Until the great shower debacle set things back. No, my shower still isn’t fixed. Yes, we’re going to hire a professional to do it. No, we’re not afraid of tackling a larger project…but time is becoming a bit of a factor, and essentially we’re going to have to rebuild the entire thing from scratch (walls, shower pan, new door, etc.), so we’re just going to toss some money at a professional. We’re still going to at least redo the kids bathroom ourselves though, hence me waiting for the vanity today. (“We’ll deliver it sometime between midnight and fuck up your whole day, ha ha!”) In the meantime, I’m trying to… Read more
