Discorama

Posted in blog | Tagged , , , | 1 Comment
Ha ha. Not quite. The lateness of this particular post is due to the fact that, yes, it would appear my discogram revealed I’ve got something wrong with my discs. Of course, I have to wait until the doctors give us the report, but if I had to guess, it’s a pretty safe bet there’s a few tears involved. I tried looking at the image cd, but…yeah. I can tell you which disc is the winner, but I can’t actually read the thing. Go figure. Anyway, although discograms on normal discs aren’t particularly painful (aside from the fact that they’re sticking a needle INTO your discs and injecting them full of fluid), when they hit discs that are torn, it definitely causes a nice inflammatory response. Hence me currently being on my third painkiller of the day. I also haven’t written anything today, though perhaps I should. Who knows what… Read more

Word Whore ~ Fox and Willow Thursday

Posted in blog | Tagged , , | Leave a comment
Been a while since I had one of these, but not a whole lot going on today. (Not counting the arrival of my back brace. Doctor was hoping it might help relieve some of the pressure on my spine. In truth I feel like I’m in a very ugly corset, at the moment. Not sure it’s helping, but I’ll give it a few weeks and see what happens. ) Actually, there is some funny stuff happening behind the scenes, but I’ll get to that later when I’ve got a few more details. (Not a new book or anything, just amusement for a good  cause.) Anyway – the topic over at Word Whores this week is about using holidays as a plot device. Good? Bad? Ugly? As with everything else, YMMV. Though most theme stories aren’t really my cup of tea, I can definitely understand why some people like them.  Also,… Read more

Without Tears

Posted in blog | Tagged , , , , , , , | Leave a comment
Today’s blog is a bit muzzy. I always get a bit discombobulated when I end up doing something for my back (a second round of IV therapy), and it tends to cut into the day. Still waiting to see if the therapy is going to help – I was told it would take 2 or 3 rounds before we really knew anything. I felt really bad in the waiting room though – there was a lovely old lady who was clearly in so much  pain, she actually started crying when the nurse asked her what her pain level was. Except she couldn’t cry – apparently she’d had some terrible fall a few years past and whatever had happened (it was pretty awful, I’m guessing – think she cracked her skull real bad) – it took away her ability to create tears. But I guess she had some sort of recent… Read more

Measurements and Limitations (Plus Bonus NSFW Egg WTFkry.)

Couldn’t really think of anything in particular to really blog about today. I ended up going to two doctor appointments – one for a growing sinus infection (a week long headache is too long, thanks), and one for the back doc. I was supposed to get another round of shots, actually – but I declined. Oddly enough, the last few weeks, the spine has been fairly stable. I’m not sure why – I’m not doing anything different, and the two weeks before that I was a total mess. Painkillers every day. And then –  *poof*  – things aligned and the pain lessened. It didn’t stop. Nothing ever *really* stops it, but when you live in chronic discomfort you do find that certain levels are more tolerable than others.  I’ve even stopped going to the chiro as much.  I don’t know. Over-manipulation is probably just as bad as not manipulating it enough and… Read more

Not much of a post today – it’s lousy on the pain scale. Don’t know if it’s a result of traveling or what, but I’m not happy about it. (And for me to have taken painkillers 3 days in a row is NOT a good sign. I generally avoid most medications, but the pain and stiffness have been brutal. I go to the back doc tomorrow – we’ll see what happens. I suspect he’ll try another injection of sorts, but if I don’t get any relief, I’m going to suggest we do a discogram – which will hurt, but might give us some real answers as to what’s going on.) Anyway, not to ramble on about my back issues, my main thought here was actually how nice it was to go back to that short story after a week of leaving it fallow…and discovering it was better than I thought.… Read more
