Half Baked

Posted in blog | Tagged , | 2 Comments
If you know me, you know I love meringue cookies. (And if you know that, you know I’ve got my recipe for them here, so feel free to steal it.) Making these cookies is a lot like an act of love. They take forever to mix. Forever to make. And if you deviate from the recipe, chances are they’re going to flop. (They might still taste okay, but the presentation will not be so good.) Writing is a lot like baking, I think…not just about the words on the page, but also when it comes time to ask for critiques or beta reads. I’ve seen a few posts over the last few days from writers asking how they know things are done. (Jeffe Kennedy had a good one  – go check it out.). And maybe you don’t always know, but there are stages to it, I think. 1) The raw,… Read more

Meh

Posted in blog, sad | 3 Comments
Okay, I had this really long in-depth post I’d started to write today, but to be honest it became massively depressing and I decided it wasn’t worth posting right now. Odd, since I’ve been deliriously happy the last few days so I don’t know why I felt the need to delve into this big long mess about cancer and my mother and all the rest of it. And the thing is, it wasn’t even supposed to be that way…but three paragraphs in and it skipped right past pathos and into despair. So, I’m not posting it. I’ll just let it sit in the drafts and hope just writing it down was enough to get the moment out of my system. Also? I’m feeling rather old and unhip. … Read more

Yeah, you know, it’s oddly catchy and I kinda can’t stop watching. (Though I’m not sure @phintheunicorn would completely approve, but that’s okay.) And in case you didn’t realize – yes that’s a spoof lipsynch job over a Michael Bublé video. (Original here.) On a few additional notes, I’m guest posting over at the League of Reluctant Adults today, talking a little bit about an upcoming project I’m looking to do. Also – All Things Urban Fantasy is taking nominations for best PNR/UF covers, so if you’re so inclined, head over that way to nominate A Brush of Darkness (or any of your favs, honestly.) 🙂… Read more

Friday Morning WTFkry

Posted in blog, wtf | 5 Comments
Yeah, I figure it’s time for something *really* funky today. So, this is called The Little Rooster. And it’s an alarm clock. For the vagina. Yes. Just set it, toss it in your underwear and wake up to your very own snorgasm. What makes the Little Rooster really special is that delicious semi-conscious state when you’re not yet quite awake. Other alarms tear those precious moments from you. The Little Rooster not only lets you savour them, it makes them even dreamier. Whether you leap straight out of bed or let it run its lazy course, no other clock will wake you with this joyful secret thrill.*nods sagely* Well, alrighty then. Though, I do like how it tells you how you can wear it anywhere. (But don’t turn it on for takesoffs and landings, yo.)… Read more

Word-Whore Thursday

Posted in blog, perfection, word-whores | Leave a comment
I’m over at the Word Whores today for my usual Thursday posting. This week the theme is perfection, which is a rather futile goal –  noble to strive for, sure, but perfection is really in the eye of the beholder anyway. What’s a deal breaker for some is endearing to someone else. It’s sort of like writing – you can’t please everyone and you shouldn’t really try. The more you try to be all things to all people the less likely you are to succeed pleasing anyone.… Read more
