Honest
There’s been a tweet I’ve seen going around the last few weeks telling readers that the best way to thank an author they like is to leave a review for one of their books. Makes a lot of sense, since usually people only tend to review things when they have a negative reaction to it. Happy people are quiet. Angry people will speak up. With the constant lessening of paid publicity available to authors (mid-list in particular), so much of our sales depends on word-of-mouth, so I do agree with this sentiment. (Although, I have found that book lovers as a whole tend to be way more vocal about what they like/don’t like, which is a fabulous thing.) Since the galleys have gone out for A Sliver of Shadow, I’ll admit I’m feeling a bit more nervous about its reception. It’s a different this time around. For A Brush of…

Third Time’s The Charm?
You know, back in the days before I was published, I would go to conventions and sit in on the workshops and listen to the authors gush about their editors and their agents and how they’d been with them since the beginning of their careers and how they wouldn’t be anywhere without them. Editor X or Agent Y took a chance on them and everything clicked and was wonderful. And that’s a tad tongue-in-cheek, obviously – not all the stories are fairy tales, but still. It sounded awesome. I mean, who wouldn’t want a partnership like that? And sure, editors all work differently – some hold your hand, some don’t. Some do in-depth editing and some stand back and give vague direction and let the author do their thing. It can be hard to find the right rhythm. I’ll admit I’ve had a rather interesting run with the whole New…

Monday Morning Updates
Such as they are. Quick note to say I’m guest blogging over at PJ Schnyder’s author site today to talk a bit about NaNoWriMo. (Ironic since I’m not participating this year, but I *have* won in past years, so I know the scoop.) Also, even though I’m still waiting on the cover, I’ve gone ahead and thrown up a page about A Sliver of Shadow, so if you’re interested in finding out a little more about that, you can see it here. (Once I get permission, I’ll put up a full chapter excerpt.) All the galleys for A Sliver of Shadow are now out, but if you didn’t get one, please drop me an email and I’ll send your information to my publicist and she’ll put you on the list. If we get any rotated back in, we’ll send them out.…

It’s Friday!
Posted in blog, domains, Friday, gaming, sorta ranty
Leave a comment
…and quite honestly I’m up to my ears in stuff, so not sure what to talk about today. Actually, I’ve got a ranty mcrantypants blog that’s been brewing up in my head for weeks now about women in gaming (or how women are portrayed in gaming, etc.) but I’m not sure I really have the literary chops to say what I want to say without it coming across as “Guh, sexism bad. Y U always show bewbs?” So I’ll sit on that for a little bit longer. Tell you what though – if I had the time/money I’d seriously look into starting up my own mini-gaming company. Thanks to running a mostly female gaming forum for eight years, I’ve got artists and writers and game modders galore. What I don’t have is honest-to-god programmers and 3D render whizzes. Gaming engine, yes. Original mesh creator? No. But perhaps I’ll just put…

Word-Whore Thursday: Fear Itself
Just a little note to say I’m over at Word-Whores today, talking a little bit about fear. I’m afraid of an awful lot at times, though I’d guess most of it tends to be irrational (although I suspect most creative types are irrational nutjobs when it comes stuff like that. But that’s what makes us creative, right?) That’s what I tell myself, anyway…. >_<…
