Cliffhanging

So I had a mild epiphany this weekend. Book 2 requires a cliffhanger. Not that that was something I actually planned on. I can even dig up my outline that I turned into my editor a few months ago. There’s an actual ending there. It’s sort of neatly wrapped up, even. One of the glories of being a panster, I guess – tangents can wind you around and take you some where entirely different. But the last week or so, (after discussing it with several other writer friends), I’ve come to realize that part of what’s been making me drag my feet a bit is that it’s just too much. Too much story to wrap up in 10k – not neatly, anyway. And I feel like I would be doing the story a disservice to rush it – plus I’ve got enough potential material to take me 1/3 of the way… Read more

The Mighty Pen, Slaying Dragons in Your Mind aka Making You Wish You Had a Bucket of Brain Bleach?

Thinking a bit on the whole adage of “Write What You Know,” today.Obviously that can’t be totally true all the time. After all, I don’t *really* have a unicorn living in my underwear drawer. (Do I have a pervy cat that routinely molests my bathrobe and was Phin’s inspiration? You bet.) On the other hand, Abby could be considered a bit of a mirror of me (at least in part.) After all, she is snarky and sarcastic, physically busted up in places, and deals with a lot of emotional crap (including the death of her mother. Yes, I fully cop to needing to explore this by way of the written word, but I do promise she moves on in time. On the other hand, I might argue that without that bit of me being thrown out there, there’s a chance BoD wouldn’t have ever really been written either. It is what it… Read more

New Netbook FTW

Posted in netbook | 3 Comments
I bought a new netbook this past week. As much as I loved my little pink NC10, it was becoming rather obvious that the LCD was breaking down. I may attempt to get it fixed later, but in some ways the netbooks are almost disposable for the price. It lasted nearly three years of fairly heavy use and massive amounts of transport. In other words, it served its purpose.  (And I can write off the expense of a new one, so I don’t mind shelling out.) I adore my netbooks – I love their convenience, their size, and the fact that I can still run Photoshop CS5 without issue. They’re self contained, have wi-fi and a fair amount of hard drive space and you really can’t beat the price for what you get (most are well under $400). And no, I didn’t even remotely entertain the thought of an iPad.… Read more

Hello Kitty Zombies

Posted in hello kitty, wtf, zombies | 8 Comments
You know, last week after we wandered about the corn maze in the dark, we drove home with the heat on full blast. And I was still freezing. Mr myn couldn’t understand why and I tried to explain to him that my backside was a block of ice. He obviously didn’t believe me, so he copped a quick feel (in a non-pervy sense), withdrew his hand and then calmly asked how long I’d been undead for. *ahem* Aannnnyway. In the spirit of such, mr myn not only took the kids out to IHOP and to a movie this morning/afternoon (to give me a little alone time), but he was also struck by the sudden urge to stop by Hot Topic and purchase me a blanket of Hello Kitty Zombie Awesomesauce. This is true love, my friends.… Read more
