Emptying the Well

I had trouble thinking of something to talk about on today’s post. Maybe it’s editing let-down. Or just that I’ve been pouring every free moment of time into the book – now that I’ve got a day or two of freedom, I’m feeling a tad lost.  And yes, I have the book 2 stuff to work on – but honestly, I wanted to give myself a few days to recharge (or refill the well of words, if you’re interested in book metaphors. Ha.) It’s a weird feeling because I’m constantly having to remind myself that I *don’t* have to edit tonight. I am, however, completely absorbed in Jacqueline Carey’s latest – Namaah’s Curse. Edits for the Win, Baby!

Finally. I was up until 3 on Saturday and 2:30 last night, but they are *done*. It’s a relief and bittersweet all at once, honestly. I’ve been working on this puppy for nearly two years now. It’s hard to imagine not being able to go back and just “tweak” a few things whenever I feel like it. It’s terrifying, in a way. Aside from line edits, there’s nothing else to be done.  Except work on Book 2, which I will be calling A Comb of Darkness. (Thanks KAK, you big weenie). I’ve even got a photoshopped nightmare of a cover in mind, but not one I’m working on today.  Iz tired, you know. Offline for the Weekend

Given that edits are due on Monday and I spent most of yesterday evening curled in a fetal ball and wishing I were dead* (or that my uterus would call a cab and GTFO), I’m going offline for the rest of the weekend. Might post tomorrow. Might not. Won’t be on Twitter or Facebook or the IM** either. I will answer emails – just maybe not as fast as I would usually. I am mostly done, but I really need to focus on the work to wrap it all up. In the meantime, there’s chocolate cake for breakfast, so that’s where I’m headed. And then…the last of my edits. Corset Craziness

The problem with getting custom made clothing via long distance is that it’s hard to get things lined up exactly right. I’m getting a corset/dress made by Scoundrelle’s Keep. It’s a new thing for me as far as clothes go. I do have a few off-the-shelf corsets that I wear for fun or parties, but this is the first time I’ve ever had one actually made to fit *me*. Anyway, I was sent the mock-up via mail the other day. Mockup – as in- that is NOT the actual color of the cloth or anything – just a way for the seamstress to see how things fall based on the measurements I sent her.
