Emptying the Well

Posted in random | Leave a comment
I had trouble thinking of something to talk about on today’s post. Maybe it’s editing let-down. Or just that I’ve been pouring every free moment of time into the book – now that I’ve got a day or two of freedom, I’m feeling a tad lost.  And yes, I have the book 2 stuff to work on – but honestly, I wanted to give myself a few days to recharge (or refill the well of words, if you’re interested in book metaphors. Ha.) It’s a weird feeling because I’m constantly having to remind myself that I *don’t* have to edit tonight. I am, however, completely absorbed in Jacqueline Carey’s latest – Namaah’s Curse. Read over 300 pages in 4 hours last night, if that tells you anything – though now I’m trying to slow it down a bit, simply because I don’t want it to end. I think, too, I’m… Read more

Offline for the Weekend

Posted in offline, random | 4 Comments
Given that edits are due on Monday and I spent most of yesterday evening curled in a fetal ball and wishing I were dead* (or that my uterus would call a cab and GTFO), I’m going offline for the rest of the weekend. Might post tomorrow. Might not. Won’t be on Twitter or Facebook or the IM** either. I will answer emails – just maybe not as fast as I would usually. I am mostly done, but I really need to focus on the work to wrap it all up. In the meantime, there’s chocolate cake for breakfast, so that’s where I’m headed. And then…the last of my edits. Wish me luck!! *I did wake up after passing out on the couch with a heating pad and caught the tail end of Rob Zombie’s El Superbeasto. Um. yeah. Not one for the kids, but if you’ve ever seen House of… Read more

Boot Whore!

Posted in cake, random, shoes | 12 Comments
I caved this week and bought this awesome pair of boots from New Rock. They come from Spain. They are awesome. And I took a big chance on them, because you can’t return them – even if you buy the wrong size. I’m normally about a 7.5, (which can really go either way depending on the brand of shoe). All they had was a 7 or 8, and it’s a damn good thing I went with the 8. They fit like a glove. Now I originally bought them as part of my super-duper SteamPunk costume thing I’m putting together. (And awesomely enough, the designer has sent me the corset mockup – I need to get laced into it and take pictures to send her…I’ll probably post a few here as well, but it’s coming along very nicely. 🙂 You know – here we are again. I’ll admit I just put… Read more

The Logic of a Labor of Love?

Posted in editing, random, updates | 4 Comments
Okay – the picture has nothing to do with anything, except it struck me terribly funny. At least for about ten seconds. Subsequent viewings continue to make me laugh, so I’m posting it. Anyway, my edits are due in five days. Five. I’ve found myself panicking at the edge of the wee hours as I continue to rework the end. There are a number of gaps that I didn’t mesh together quite right when I rewrote a large chunk of the story. Things that made sense before are either no longer needed or get explained elsewhere…or, as I discovered the other night, no longer make any sense at all. It’s put in me in a bit of bind, since I’m basically out of time. I did spend a fair amount of time going over it last night, and jabbering away at Jeffe around midnight. I was just on the edge… Read more
