Whee! I Won!

Got the phone call last night telling me I won the Paranormal category for the Toronto Romance Writers 2009 Golden Opportunity Contest. (Or really, my Shadow of the Incubus entry won, but same thing…) Leah Hultenschmidt of Dorchester was the final judge and requested the full ms. Which of course, I’m now going *back* over with a fine toothed comb. You know. Just to be *sure* I’ve cleared away all those typos. And of course, everywhere I go I see some new flaw that needs cleaning up. Just the nature of the game, I guess – to want to micro-edit over and over and over again. As an after shot, the entry now goes to a sort of “Best in Show” judge – an agent, this time. And again, for me, it’s just about getting it out there and past the slush pile that’s important. I don’t *need* to win…

Final in the Molly!
Ok. The Waterboys/Gypsy Mojo is helping. 🙂 Just found out I finaled in the Molly! Unfortunately I can’t make any edits to it, but the two pubbed judges really loved it, so guess that will have to be good enough. 🙂 Off to the agent for final judging. *double-crosses fingers*…

Finally! A Final!

Wonder of all wonders, I got the call yesterday. Actually, mr myn got it, but he was quick to let me know. But yes, I’m one of four finalists in the Golden Opportunity Contest. And in fact, I’m number 2 out of 40 entries, with a nice average score of 197 out of 200 points. Thankfully, they’re giving us the opportunity to edit/modify our entries before they get sent to the judging editor – I’ve got a few spacing issues I need to correct, and I’d made a few small changes to that first chapter after I’d sent it into the contest. So w00t for me! Cross your fingers for me, eh?…

Ok, so the end of another crazy ass week approaches. Except for the pita that work has been with this migration it’s been pretty good. Well, that and my rejections, but I’ve stopped worrying about that. Printed out my reject emails and posted them on the wall at work. Inspiration at its best, I suppose. Chapter 1 has been reworked again. It’s shorter and mostly rearranged as opposed to rewritten. Some of the backstory has been removed, but I’ve reworked a lot of it back into the story elsewhere. Seriously, Chapter 1 has been the bane of my existence. The funniest thing? I’m right back where I started. Last year when I first started writing it – I had a few paragraphs of Abby and the *bam*, the incubus walks in the door. And then I made the mistake of showing people and I got a lot of – we…

Random Weekly Update
I’m not much good at doing weekly updates, but felt like one today. I have not gotten much writing down this week – about 2800 words, all told – which is lousy by my current standards, but I did manage to at least edit my first two chapters for SotI and barf up a 3 page synopsis. (Special thanks and hugs to Jeffe, Kendris, AK, La-Tessa and JET for being my sounding board the last few weeks. I’m sure I drove you all crazy but it is sooo very much appreciated! And all those lovely people on Facebook for giving me encouragement too.) The point behind the editing was to prep up for a contest entry. I’m not really all that fond of contests, but I thought it might be good practice as far as synopsis writing goes. I know I need to learn the finer points of that, and…
