Recalibrating
Some days I wish life had roll-over hours. Like minutes or data plans, you could hoard your time when you didn’t need it, and cash it in for extra sleep or work time at a later date. I used to be a morning person. Many moons ago, I was up with the dawn and doing things and that was fine. And then somewhere along the way I became a night owl. (Probably around college – and that bled into wanting some sort of life after work, and then after the kids came along it was about having some quiet time when they went to bed…and then when I started writing, the midnight-witching hour was about the only time I could find in which to actually get anything down.) Which would be fine, except I got a dog. Who is now nearly 10 months old…and she is a morning person. Like…

Well, I haven’t updated in a while. There’s always reasons, I suppose – some are health related, some are holiday related, some are writing related. (And*cough*Dragon Age Inquisition*cough* 1st playthrough was over 130 hours who me?*cough*I romanced the bald egg elf because of course I did*cough* I regret nothing.) That and the office job has been kicking my ass fairly regularly. I used to blog during my lunch hour, but office security has been tightening up as far as online stuff goes – I can’t log into certain IM clients anymore, Sad Sausage Dogs was actually listed as a pr0n site (hello? it’s my web comic?)…and access to this site is also restricted. Oddly enough, I can get to it and I can attempt to create a post – but upon posting, it wigs out and says the site is untrusted and therefore, no. And then I lose everything I’ve written.…

I had actually meant to post about this book several weeks ago when I was at Geek Girl Con, but better late than never. Anyway – I wish I’d found this particular resource much earlier – it would have definitely shortened some of my research time on certain things in my latest manuscript, but it’s still a really great overview of information if you’re writing Regencies/Steampunk type stories. (And it goes particularly well when paired with some historical slang or the dictionary of the vulgar tongue, might I add.) I’ve actually got another of Krista Ball’s , too – I mentioned it over on this post, (What King’s Ate and Wizards Drank) and it’s all about food prep, particularly in medieval times. Again – major eye opener if you’re a stickler to for details – particularly in fantasy when it seems like everyone’s eating tarts and pickled eels. And quite honestly, it’s…

So I finally got back from World Fantasy Con on Sunday. I know I tend to be fairly quiet about where I am via social media during these things. I should probably be better about it, but a lot of it is laziness on my side, plus I have a tendency to want to focus on the con itself without all the other stuff getting in the way. In my case, I ended up fighting off the beginnings of a shitty cold on the first evening and then getting completely slammed by a fibromyalgia flare on the last evening – enough that I was stuck in bed for 5 or 6 hours on Saturday and had a lot of trouble walking/socializing most of the day. I also managed to tear my left calf muscle pretty badly on Sunday after I got home, so I’m just a bundle of joy at the moment,…

Dropping Electronic Baggage
So my main hard drive gave up the ghost over the weekend. And yes the picture on the left is fairly accurate in my reaction, but eh. To be honest, I was actually able to save the majority of my data without much issue – thanks to the fact that so much of my information (e.g. writing) is in the cloud somewhere and even installs like Office or Photoshop are all cloud-based now, it’s not quite as big of a deal. All my Steam-saved games? Most of those were stored on another drive, so I should be okay there. Same with my iTunes library. (After a while, you realize it’s really lousy to store ALL your data on one drive – and if you can really swing it, a RAID configuration or a NAS is even better, but I don’t have one of those…yet.) The one thing I did lose…
