The Softer Edges of Memory
Posted in blog, mother

Odd thing, healing. This is the first year since my mother died that I actually had to think about which day it was. (Today, of course). In previous years, the anniversary sorta loomed on the horizon for a few weeks before hand, generally falling into a patterns of despair and sadness. And then the day would pass, and I’d get on with my life. This time? I actually almost forgot it was here. Maybe that’s more of a reflection of how busy life has gotten – who has time for memories when there are things. To. Be. Done? Or maybe it’s because I’ve been trying to let it go over the last year or so. (And if you’re a longer term reader of the blog, you’ll probably recognize this by some of the posts.) For a very long time I kept a good deal of it to myself, because the…

Word Whore Thursday: Getting Hit On
I’m over at Word Whores today, talking about getting hit on. Sort of odd, really, because I think most of my stories pretty much cross the line into outright harassment, but it makes for an interesting discussion, anyway. Since most of the experiences on the blog are from the female-getting-hit-on perspective, I’d actually be interested to hear more about it from the other side. Â *Do* women hit on men just as much? Or are they just not as blatant about it? (Or did I just visit the wrong clubs in my youth?) Actually, I sorta take that back. I do seem to remember at Romantic Times a few years ago, a couple of the cover models got groped pretty badly at times. (And maybe they did all the time and I just wasn’t paying attention.) But I do remember one incident where an older woman kept trying to stick her…

Random Marketing and Silly Stuff
Yes, that picture seems off kilter, but I’m feeling too lazy to open Photoshop up to rotate it. Anyway, bookplates are in, so drop me a line if you want one (I’ll set up some info on the main site, but it will probably involve the standard SASE.) Those other things are just mailing labels, but I thought they were pretty so I’m throwing them in there too. Never realized what a pita it was to send out like ten books at once and having to write that address over and over and over. (And I’m sorta stupid when it comes to sending things out. Last month I sent out three signed copies…and sent the wrong ones to the wrong addresses. *facepalm*) So anything that makes me have to think less about what I’m doing is a good thing. That probably sounds bad, but it’s true – doesn’t take much…

Happy Release Day!
I’m giving a shout out today to two fabulous people and their new releases today. Congratulations to my fellow Word Whore, Marcella Burnard for her second book, Enemy Games! Incidentally, if you want to see what books really do in their spare time, trot over to Jeffe Kennedy’s blog for an in depth look. Enemy Games is quite the sophisticated traveler, apparently. 🙂 Congratulations also goes out to my fellow Leaguer (somehow League of Reluctant Adulterer doesn’t have quite the vibe I’m looking for….) Kevin Hearne for his debut of the Iron Druid Chronicles. The first book is Hounded. (It’s got fab reviews so far, so I expect terrific things from it.)…
