Freaky Kids Books

I’m no expert on children’s books. I know I read a lot growing up. I had to write one in high school. Even attempted to get it pubbed, actually – got myself a copy of Writer’s Market and everything. Of course this was in the days before the internet so trying to figure out what I was doing was a bit of a mess. But I digress. Since having children, it’s been kind of fun reconnecting with a lot of the old favorites – sometimes there’s just a great bittersweet sort of nostalgia about the stories. And maybe I’m odd, but occasionally a certain passage or a picture will trigger a memory and essentially transport me to an exact moment in time and I can *remember* sitting in a doctor’s office reading it, or huddling beneath the covers with a flashlight or what have you. Buckling Down

I got on the scale this morning for the first time in a while and it’s not overly pretty. Okay, it’s not pretty by about five pounds, but still. Which irks me, because it’s not like I didn’t see them sneaking up on me, but here they are. Though maybe it’s more like ten since last year, five since the Fall? Still full of suck. I can make the excuse that I had surgery and that slowed me down a bit, but it’s been several months, so that doesn’t really count anymore. On the other hand, I really piled on those second and third helpings of mac and cheese over the holidays and I’m starting to see the results of that. Plus, as I’ve noted before, I’m a bit of a stress eater, and I like to eat to relax – when I’m reading, when I’m writing, when I’m playing… Read more

Random Ramblings About Agents, Editors and Money…

First – a nice shout out back to Simon Larter and Donna Hole for the link-backs. I had no idea I was so fascinating. 😉 I actually helped Simon out with a little research the other day. And I’m not sure just how interesting it really was, but I trust him to spruce it up for the sake of art. One of things I did talk to him about was the fact that I took the chance to chat with the respective editors of the different publishing houses before I made my decision.  Which really makes so much sense. Regardless of who you’re looking to sign on with – agent or editor – you need to get a feel for who they are, as you’re most likely going to have to work with them for several years. What Are You Doing, Dave?

So I built my first computer last week. Or really, my awesome coworkers did (and all for the low, low price of several boxes of Cadbury Creme Eggs and my leftover RAM.)
