Sent

Sent in my manuscript to the editor last night. I debated heavily on it, because as I noted before, I tend to get into this cycle of editing and changing. And I have to be careful of that. I mean, sure, there’s always things to fix, always a sentence or two that might be written better. The problem is that if I edit *too* much, then I run the risk of losing the original flavor of the scene. (And I’ve done that more than once).  Or I focus on a few lines here or there without paying attention to the surrounding paragraphs and then go back and realize I’ve started using the same words just a little too close together. *shrugs* So, I bit the bullet and sent it in – after only fixing up the most obvious. Great Falls

We took a half a day yesterday to visit Great Falls.  It’s a really lovely park, but for some reason we only seem to get to it every couple of years or so.  It tends to be very crowded. Not sure hiking over the rocks was the best thing for my back (they muscles are screaming about it now), but I took it pretty slow. And really, you have to respect a place where even the signs in the bathroom declare that if you fall in the water you will die. So, here’s a little smattering of pictures… Awww…me, because I’m a big silly.  And I hate being photographed, but this one came out ok. *snerk* mr myn says I should use it for the back of a book cover (*cough*)  Me and the kids overlooking the river. Whee! I Won!

Got the phone call last night telling me I won the Paranormal category for the Toronto Romance Writers 2009 Golden Opportunity Contest. (Or really, my Shadow of the Incubus entry won, but same thing…) Leah Hultenschmidt of Dorchester was the final judge and requested the full ms. Which of course, I’m now going *back* over with a fine toothed comb. You know. Just to be *sure* I’ve cleared away all those typos. And of course, everywhere I go I see some new flaw that needs cleaning up. Just the nature of the game, I guess – to want to micro-edit over and over and over again. As an after shot, the entry now goes to a sort of “Best in Show” judge – an agent, this time. And again, for me, it’s just about getting it out there and past the slush pile that’s important. WTF is THIS???!

Yes. This is the actual cover. (And many thanks to Michelle Miles for pointing this atrocity out on Facebook). Never mind that the raccoon looks like he has buttons for eyes – if that rabbit actually *could* close its mouth it would impale its own chin with its teeth. Which I suppose is better than having the teeth the other away around, because then it would be chewing its own brain. Of course..it *IS* a zombie rabbit. Maybe it would like that sort of thing. Nice touch with the anthropomorphic foxes in the background there. Jesus. I want to weep.… Read more
