I Can Haz Editor!

Posted in blog | Tagged , , | Leave a comment
There’s something rather awesome about bacon you can cook in your toaster.** There’s also something awesome about being assigned a new editor after several weeks of author-limbo. (The patter of my brain has been a bit like this: “Doesn’t anybody wannntttt meeee? Do I smell? I smell, don’t I?” and so on and so on…) *ahem* So, without further ado, I’d like to announce that I’ll be working with awesomesauce editor Megan McKeever! (And there was much rejoicing, especially since Book 2 is due in…two weeks.) ** Of course, Reddi-Bacon didn’t last too long  – even though they were basically glorified bacon pop-tarts, apparently no one figured out how to not get the grease to leak out of the tinfoil thing they were wrapped in. And what does grease do when it meets the heating element of a toaster? Yeah. Unrelated and also awesome? A breakfast meat nativity scene –>… Read more

First Review

Posted in blog | Tagged , | Leave a comment
I got sent the first review of Brush of Darkness yesterday (you can read it over Night Owl Reviews.) BoD was given a lovely 4 out of 5 stars, so color me quite pleased. πŸ™‚ And no, I don’t think I’ll be shouting out about every review I get, but this is my first one so I’m going to give myself a bit of a pass. (And honestly, I’m just grateful that they didn’t hate it – for all that I’ve come so far, there’s still that part of me that’s just waiting to be exposed as some sort of fraud. I imagine that’s a pretty typical feeling for n00b authors, though.) The review does make some valid points about not wrapping everything up…not sure that’s going to get any better by the end of the second book either. *cough* We’ll see. πŸ™‚… Read more

All Good Things in Time

Posted in blog | Tagged , , | 2 Comments
Last year, while chatting with a potential publisher, the editor had asked me about my writing history – how long I’d been writing, my goals, etc. And of course, I remarked that BoD was really the first thing I’d ever written with the intent of publication (not counting the children’s book I’d written in high school…which, of course, didn’t get pubbed.) I talked about how I’d written Β in high school, but had been rather discouraged in college and had pretty much stopped all together until a few years ago when I started doing the PbP gaming thing. The editor noted that this was a shame. After all, just imagine where I’d be if I’d been writing all this time.Β And I suppose that’s one way of looking at it. I certainly would have perfected my craft a bit more. On the other hand, I’m not sure things would have turned out… Read more

Done!

Posted in blog | Tagged , , | Leave a comment
Just a note to pop in and say that my rough draft is actually finished now. πŸ™‚ *thuds* It’s just over 105k (and I imagine that number will be changing a bit as start the revision process). I’ve got a few weeks to fix up some of the more questionable places and then I’ll be sending it off to the new editor. πŸ™‚ ’bout time, really.… Read more

Bootlegged!

Posted in blog | Tagged , , | Leave a comment
Well…not really. I just found it dreadfully amusing that one of my ARCs managed to find its way to ebay last week (and actually had 3 bidders on it!) I’m mostly flattered, though there’s a tiny bit of righteous indignity to it too. (What, doesn’t the “Not for resale label” mean anything??? Integrity, people!) And it’s not like I’ll ever know who it was that put it up there – I sent out ARCs, my agent sent out ARCs, my editor sent out ARCs, my publicist sent out ARCs…and yeah, you get the picture. Could have come from anywhere – and frankly, it doesn’t matter. Still, it’s kind of cool in a way. I honestly wouldn’t have thought anyone would remotely think about bidding on a book by a n00b author. (Pirating would be another thing all together – I imagine there are all sorts of people that will download… Read more
