Pimping for Pinterest (and Bacon Coffin WTFkery)

Posted in blog | Tagged , , , | 6 Comments
I’ll be honest. I don’t completely get Pinterest. I have an account that I’ve logged into a few times and done nothing with (and yet I have followers. Why?) I’m feeling a tad curmudgeonly today. Every time I think I’ve got the basics down of whatever social networking platforms are out there, another one comes along. (And oddly enough Pinterest has been around since 2009 – it’s just taking off right NOW.) And I’m all for getting my message out there however I can do it, but there is a part of me that just wants to shout “Enough already!” I’ve already got multiple Facebook pages and Twitter accounts, Tumblrs, Linked-In, GetGlue, FourSquare – and I can barely keep up with those half the time. The idea of adding another to the mix? At the heart of it, I get it – you can pin stuff to your virtual bulletin… Read more

Monday Updates

Posted in blog | Tagged , , | Leave a comment
First up, Fox & Willow has a new page up, so go on and check that out. 😀 (Incidentally, I just about died when I saw the hedgehog there – no, it’s not in the comic, but for obvious reasons I find it so very amusing.) Otherwise I just wanted to note that I’ve got a signed copy of A Sliver of Shadow up on the Brenda Novak auction site. Proceeds go toward diabetes research, so definitely check it out (if not for my book, then for something else – there’s a lot of really great items for both writers and readers available.)… Read more

I’d Like To Thank The Academy…

Posted in blog | Tagged , , , | 2 Comments
…ha ha ha. No. It’s just that time in the book production process where I need to get my dedications and acknowledgments written. I never know what to say, quite honestly – I’m always afraid I’m going to leave someone out or hurt someone’s feelings. The obvious people to thanks are always obvious – family members, editors, agents – the usual professionals.  My beta readers. My blogging groups. The people who have been in the trenches and know the sorts of hurdles that a writer faces. But then you get into the nitty gritty – people who helped me with research, for example. Or gave general support and venting space when I needed it. The ones who overlooked my grouchy days and my whining days and the days where nothing seems to go right. The people who make me laugh. Hell, some days I’m just grateful that anyone actually wants to… Read more

Word Whore Thursday

Posted in blog | Tagged , , | Leave a comment
I may have to start changing the title for these Thursday posts since Thursday is also a Fox & Willow update day. (And yes, I’m pimping the hell out of it, but you know what? I love it and I really want people to read it, so that’s just how it goes. I’m actually thinking of starting up a series of posts (on the SSD site) the specifically delves into the fairy tales we chose and why we chose them, and some of the aspects we were hoping to explore. But those will have to come a little at a time (otherwise there would be too many spoilers, I suspect.) In the meantime, the Word Whores theme this week is about chore division, though in my household I’m pretty much grateful if any chores get done at all, let alone have time to decide who does what.… Read more

Playing Catch Up

Posted in blog | Tagged , , | Leave a comment
There’s a sort of surreal mindset that comes with those last few days of revisions. (At least for me.) One of those things that builds and builds stress-wise until it’s 3 in the morning before the book is due and my right eye is twitching like mad and I’m on my 13th can of Coke Zero and I’m not even seeing the words I’m typing. (At which point, I give up and take the next day off from my day job to finish up those last few pages – because even if I actually managed to get to work I’d be a zombie anyway.) It’s probably poor time management on my side, though I don’t mean for it to be. Not sure why whenever I’ve got something due, shoes start dropping, kids get sick, my back flares up…one small thing after another that starts to build up and up. (And… Read more
