Crystalline Knowledge of You.

About two years ago, during my second trip to Vegas, mr myn and I stopped into the Michael Negrin store there. The stuff they sell is really over-the-top – shirts, dresses, jewelry – all of it done up in lovely vintage/Victorian crystals. Mr myn bought me the pictured necklace, which I’ve worn pretty much every day since then. I’m terribly hard on my jewelry, mind – I sleep in it, shower in it, pretty much never take it off. It’s one of the reasons I don’t wear much and it’s why I’m not interested in it unless it’s a bit on the hardier side. At any rate, last year one of the crystals fell off – but we found it right away and we were able to glue it back on. About two weeks ago I noticed another one had fallen off, but we couldn’t find it anywhere. This sort…

There is an old man in my neighborhood whose wife has Alzheimer’s. I’ve waved at him as I’ve driven by, but I’ve never spoken to him. I’ve never seen his wife either. He spends his entire day locked in the house with her, taking care of her needs. And every day at about 5 PM, he puts her to bed and comes out of the house and goes for a walk. He walks for a long time. He explained to our neighbors that he has to. I imagine it’s his only way of escaping what has probably become a daily hell – having to take complete and utter care of the one you decided to grow old with…and knowing that she will never know or understand the sacrifice he’s given her. I’m skating the edges of this blog post at the moment. There are things on my mind dealing with Ye…

Covering the Kindle 3

I broke down last month and bought the new Kindle 3 in its lovely graphite form. (And as you can see, I’ve jailbroken it so that the screensaver is actually my book cover. I’m a rebel, yo.) And truthfully, this is my second Kindle 3. I ended up returning the first one a few weeks after I bought it because the letters and words started to rub off on the rubber buttons. When I opened the first one, I noticed that some of the letters seemed a bit faded. Fast forward a few weeks to the fact that the Menu/Back/Home buttons were nearly completely gone…eh. not so good. I did a little poking about and discovered I wasn’t the only one – so maybe a bad batch went out. In either case, I called Amazon and they replaced it for free with a new device (not a refurb) since it was…
