Princess for a Day

When the sisters rose, arm-in-arm, through the water in this way, their youngest sister would stand quite alone, looking after them, ready to cry, only that the mermaids have no tears, and therefore they suffer more. “Oh, were I but fifteen years old,” said she: “I know that I shall love the world up there, and all the people who live in it.” At last she reached her fifteenth year. “Well, now, you are grown up,” said the old dowager, her grandmother; “so you must let me adorn you like your other sisters;” and she placed a wreath of white lilies in her hair, and every flower leaf was half a pearl. Then the old lady ordered eight great oysters to attach themselves to the tail of the princess to show her high rank. “But they hurt me so,” said the little mermaid. “Pride must suffer pain,” replied the old…

Just an update post of things I have going on – which is basically my way of saying I’m going to be terribly busy in the next few months. Agents and revisions aside, as of January I’ll be taking the reins of the FF&P website as the new webmaster. Part of this is going to include moving the entire site to a new host. Unfortunately it’s written in Cold Fusion, which I’m not familiar with. The good news is that the current webmaster is going to give me the basics here, but looks like there’s going to be a lot of manual table creation (probably about 30 hours worth or so). In theory, the new host will be better for us in the long run, though only time will tell. I’ve got several render commissions in the works now too – most of which were pushed off for November due…

His Royal Hotness Returns…

It’s Friday, and I’m just about tapped out for serious subjects to blog about….so, um. Yeah. David is coming back this way in March. Bigger venue and probably way more expensive. Tickets haven’t gone on sale yet, but I’ll be trotting on up to Maryland for sure. (Though I really hope he comes back to the Birchmere at some point – utterly brilliant being able to get such a great seat for such a low price). And he has a new album out too – but it’s an import, which kinda blows. (Mine is on its way here from Switzerland, I believe). Why, no, I’m not obsessed. Not at all. Why do you ask? Hey – why are you backing away?? Rock Prelude – David Garrett…

Back to Earth…

So yesterday was a bit crazy. When Colleen announced her representation of me on Twitter, my blog/twitter hits exploded for the next few hours. (And I got to see it all unfold live via my Woopra application – tons of little pings from all over the country – what people were reading on the blog, where they came from, how long they hung out – all in real-time.) Lots of emails. Lots of DMs. Lots of well-wishes and congratulations and questions on how I managed it. (And isn’t that the trick question?? Although I did find it amusing that I had quite a few hits on my query and query letter tags. There’s no big secret here, folks. I wrote a book, I wrote a query, I followed submission guidelines, I got rejected, I sent it out again, etc. Rinse and repeat.) Today, we’re back down to normal levels as far…
