Word Whore ~ Fox and Willow Thursday
Guess I missed blogging yesterday. See the post before this about crashing and burning and all that. I don’t like blogging when I’m cranky – I tend to rant, and that’s never good. So some days it’s just better to not do it. Anyway – I’m over at Word-Whores today, talking a little bit about swag (hopefully I’ll have some new stuff to show you guys in a few weeks – F&W swag for one…plus something fun and Abby related.) And of course, Fox & Willow updates today – harping, ahoy!…

Con Info
So many of my friends are gearing up for RWA this week – I’m not going, but I hope everyone has a fabulous time! 🙂 I’d like to go, but I’m trying to stick to things on the East Coast this year – budget and travel constraints and all that. Plus, I sometimes find myself wondering where my books really fit – I don’t really write romance and I don’t generally have HEAs. (Well. Except maybe this last one. In a manner of speaking. Ahem. There will hopefully be some happy readers this time around, yes?) So, weird place. Too much romance for the hard core fantasy readers…not enough for the romance readers. But it is what it is, so I’m not going to fret about it too much. I just thought I’d maybe take a spin through some different cons this year, since I’ve only ever really attended RT…

Word Whore ~ Fox and Willow Thursday
Late post today because I’m in a bit of a sick space. Still not feeling well, so just popping on to mention my post over at Word-Whores – just a few thoughts on some personal mistakes I’ve made in the publishing process. Also, new Fox & Willow up today, so check that out. Incidentally, I’m  getting some F&W swag printed up for the upcoming AAD con – just gotta think of a tag line for it. “Of Foxes and Fairy Tales?” My fever brain isn’t working particularly well, so perhaps I’ll just forgo that part of it for now……

Writing What You Don’t Know

I was on a forum over the weekend where people were talking about things they hated most in books. One person commented that they hated it when men wrote about women characters. Now, the user has a right to that opinion, even though it was pointed out that that sort of limitation would completely obliterate most books as we know them. And the thing is – the user’s specific complaint was the author’s treatment of the female character’s period – e.g. referring to it as her “little monthly visitor” or some such.  Now, I haven’t read the passage in question, so I don’t know the context. But her argument is that you can’t write about something you don’t have and will never be able to experience. Huh? That’s like saying I can’t write about dying because I’m not dead. The short answer is  – not everyone experiences everything, regardless of…

Word-Whore ~ Fox and Willow Thursday
So this week on Word Whores we’re talking about books or characters we wish we’d written. Which is difficult for me – and I obviously did pick some, but to be honest, I don’t really wish I’d written anyone else’s stuff. The reason I love those characters and books is specifically because someone ELSE wrote them and made them brilliant. Wishing I’d written them instead just seems to suck out all the enjoyment out of it for me, because even if I had written book x…it wouldn’t have been the book x by author y that I loved. It would have been book x, written by me. Which maybe doesn’t make any sense, but there it is. Anyway, check that out and of course new Fox & Willow up today as well! 😀…
