Well, finally, I managed to get my crap together and get that submission package sent to Tor. I don’t know why it took me as long as I did – for a little while I got stuck in that cycle of “it’s just not *good* enough”. And I edited and edited and edited and edited some more. And the truth of the matter is that no matter how much editing I did, I still felt like it was never going to get there. Probably just an excuse on my part. Fear of rejection sucks, though it’s probably something I’m going to have to get used to. Finally, I just decided that it was as good as it was going to get, for the moment, and I bit the bullet and sent it out. Of course, I sent it last night and got the return receipt this morning. So now I’m…

Whee. I’m PRO. Or Not?

Meh. I finally got my latest rejection printed out and a burned copy of SotI (on CD) out to RWA for inclusion in their PRO program. I’m of two minds on it, really. On one hand, it’s great they have a program for authors who have managed to complete a manuscript and the guts to send it out. On the other, it smacks a wee bit of “Congratulations on finishing your book! Too bad it sucks!” Well, okay, maybe that’s too harsh. And I’m certainly willing to see what the PRO side of things has to offer, but I’d way rather be PAN. And I know there’s quite a bit of controversy going on right now within RWA and their inclusion (or lack thereof) of e-books. Sticky wicket, indeed. It’s entirely possible, depending on the outcome, that I may decide to bail out of RWA entirely, but for now I’ll…

Updates and such.

Well, it’s not much of an update, really. I’ve seem to have taken to writing my blogs in my head again (whether in the shower or driving to work or folding laundry or whatever.) Not sure if it’s the effort of trying to organize my thoughts that triggers the mental acrobats, but what’s interesting it that once I’ve done it, I no longer seem to need to write it down here. Go figure. (It’s too bad, really -because I’ve “written” some pretty deep and interesting stuff that way. LOL). I would like to put up some specific posts here in a bit, but I’ve got a lot of pictures and I need to figure out how to organize them. Still, most of the last few weeks was spent prepping for The Gathering over at Nationals (i.e the PRISM awards from FF&P). I was in charge of coming up with the…

Drafting
Well, after working until 1:30 every night this past week, I’ve finally finished the editing. Or at least the second run through of it. Plugged in plot holes. Got rid of plot points that either never went anywhere or didn’t make much sense. (Damn my panster-self!). Is there more to do? Oh yes, but less than there was. Kind of freaks me out, honestly. I printed it out at work today and I have to say it’s a bit overwhelming to think I managed to write nearly 400 pages in a year. Less than that, actually, if I’m really honest with myself. Even though I started the process about this time last year, I didn’t become *serious* about it until the fall. I had about 28,000 words by then, but I was still half-assing it. Come January, I instituted my 1000-word-a-day policy and stuck to it. By the end of…

How Much is Too Much?

So. I somehow managed to snag myself a copy of LKH’s latest: Skin Trade. There was a time, several years ago, when I’d snatch the latest AB: Vampire Hunter book off the shelves and read it in a matter of hours. I’ve had this one for at least 3 or 4 days now…and I’m barely into the 7th chapter (about 50 pages). I literally put it down every few paragraphs. Admittedly, I’m busy. Kids, writing, job, all of it. My reading time has gone down the crapper and to be honest, there’s very few books out there that hold my attention that long these days. (Doesn’t stop the slow pile in just about every corner…I have *TONS* of books and manga, as mr myn can attest to). Still. Putting a book down every few paragraphs? There’s a lot of dialogue in here, which is fine, but thus far it’s been…
