Friday Fiddling

Got my tickets to see His Royal Hotness for the fourth time today. (Concert is in DC in Feb.) Best part about it? We have 16 people coming from all over the world to hang out as a group before and after the show. (A bigger repeat of the experience last year from the Birchmere). I can’t begin to mention how awesome this is – not only do I get to watch my fav violinst, but I get to do it with some of the most fabulous people I’ve ever met. However. I would like to call major shenanigans on TicketMaster for having a totally lame-ass automation system. I only called to buy my tickets because I had so many to buy and I wanted to talk to a human being about it (which didn’t happen). If I’d known how headbashing an experience it was going to be, I would… Read more

Word Whore Thursday: Assimilation

Posted in blog | Tagged , , , | Leave a comment
I’m over at Word-Whores today, chatting a little bit about what it means to be a geek today vs the the past. Otherwise, there’s not much new going on except yay for cleaning the house. Not quite done, but it’s getting there in little bits and pieces. I’m enjoying my week of non-writing overall (except for some little bits here and there), but I’ll be getting back on the horse next week as the outline for BoD3 was approved yesterday. I’ve got about 20k or so already written on it, but the edits for SoS were sorta sucking up all my time. Besides, I wanted to make sure it was a go before I got too much further into it – it’s a bit heartbreaking to realize that I might have to undo all of that if the publisher decides they want changes. And the Legacy DLC for DA2? Mmmmm….so very,… Read more

Calling Goblins

It all started with a McDonald’s Fry Guy whistle. During the mid-80’s – I’m not sure exactly when, maybe 82 to 86 or so, I had a summer friend who would come to visit. His grandmother lived next door to us when I was growing up and every summer he would come to visit her for a few months. (His parents were separated so I think that had something to do with the length of the stay. Sometimes his sister or cousins would come for a few weeks as well.) In some ways it was a godsend for me. They didn’t go to my school or know any of my other friends, so they didn’t know how miserably I was picked on. I looked forward to his arrival every summer like I was getting a passport straight into Narnia or something. I can’t even begin to explain it, because honestly? He… Read more

Something New

Posted in blog, ironheart, wip, writing | 9 Comments
I’ve been vacillating back and forth about this potential new story. 1st PoV or 3rd? Stick with the beginning I wrote a few years ago or restructure it into something else? Although the core of the story has stayed the same more or less, the world building side of things has taken a slightly different twist than I planned. I’m going to run with it for now, though I’m still feeling it out. A few new characters have popped up too, and I’m not sure how they’re all going to work with each other. Sometimes I’ll actually throw new characters into bed or some other awkward situation, just to see how things play out. (No, I almost never use those scenes – they’re strictly my brain figuring out the pieces.) But this time around I’ve got a younger set of characters. I’m not sure if this is going to be YA or… Read more
