Word Whore Post! and BoD Excerpt!

I’m over at Word-Whores today talking a bit about courtesans and a rather round-about way of comparing them to writers. Gifts of Awesomesauce

There is very little out there as awesome as flannel Hello Kitty pajamas. (These were a lovely gift from fellow word-whore, Kristine Krantz, last week when she came for a visit. There are pants to go with them, but Lucy appears to have absconded with them into parts unknown.) Kristine, btw? Totally awesome person. 🙂 On the other hand? Danielle Poiesz also sent me a little something, and truthfully, I’m not sure even HK Pjs can stand up to this –> Yes. That is a winged unicorn mug. Yes, the unicorn is crapping out cupcakes. I will be the most awesomesauce author EVAH whilst I sit and write on my weekends, surrounded in Hello Kitty warmth and sipping tea from my cupcake crapping unicorn mug. I’m not sure it gets much better than that. Also, congrats to Rachel  Firask for winning a signed copy of Brush of Darkness yesterday!… Read more

Science Smells

Connor got a Disgusting Science kit for Christmas this year. Much of it involves getting a good look at the overall grossness that is the human body. Always a treat, but the science major in me approves whole-heartedly, especially because the kit included materials to create and set up our own petri dishes. (It’s very easy to do, really, since agar is really  just gelatin and sugar and water). So there’s a nice set of four ready to go petri dishes ready to go now. Connor was quick to point out that agar kinda smells bad. (And yeah, it’s not the greatest thing ever when you’re boiling it on the stove, but it’s not that bad either.) Science is often messy and smelly. (Much like creativity, really.) In this case we’ve got our pristine substrate, ready for scoring with whatever nasty things we can find. Gearing Up

The last day of winter holidays is always a weird one for me. Right after New Year’s I start feeling vaguely restless. One of those things where my mind knows it’s time to start cranking back up and out of its sluggish little hibernation…but the flesh? Yeah. It’s still wanting to plant itself on the couch for endless reading. Or movie watching. Or epic WoW raid sessions. (The last one is a lie. I rarely raid in WoW. But still.) Or eating. OMG, the eating. Tomorrow, it’s back on the diet. I swear it. Maybe. So here I am, under the distinct realization that the tree really does have to come down today. And I’ve been wearing the same flannel pjs for like three days. A shower is in order. Washing dishes. Laundry. A good vacuum. Tumbleweed needs her cage cleaned. And then the writing.
