A Chance to Bloom

Posted in contests, metaphoric crap that is supposed to mean something deep but probably doesn't | 3 Comments
The trees are finally starting to blossom in my back yard. The few that are left anyway. I’ve got three I need to take down now, because the weight of that last big snow actually uprooted them and they are just slowly dying. Still, the ones that are here and perking up are very pretty, even in the rainy and windy mess we had yesterday. I’m rather fond of the image of flower petals blowing around. Quaint and poetic and all that crap. Yesterday was also the RWA’s announcement of the Golden Heart finalists. Clearly, I didn’t make it, though I’m kind of itching to see my scores. I don’t usually do too well with the more “traditional” romance contests, so it will be interesting to see just how far off the mark I was. And yes, I can be this glib about it because it doesn’t really matter to… Read more

Shoes…Again

Posted in shoes | 3 Comments
In the interest of still not feeling well, I thought I’d post this lovely pair of sandals that I bought on Monday. You know. Before the pukefest began. I liked them enough that I also bought them in black. And as much as I was dying to pick up a new pair of Steve Madden wedges, I think I need to stick to sort of flats for a while. Damn back.… Read more

Drugs Are Bad, Mmmkay?

Posted in back pain, drugs, grumpy as fuck, tmi | 7 Comments
I can easily admit I’m the Queen of Chronic Disorders. I’ve got several. I’ve been on a lot of medications with varying degrees of success – everything from low-grade antidepressants for pain to full-blown anti-seizure meds: Elavil, Neurontin, Vicodin, Voltaron, OxyContin, Flexeril, Xanaflex, Celebrex, Elmiron, Lexapro and my new favorite, Ultram ER. Now, I’m used to a fair amount of side effects. Most of the pain killers or anti-depressants would give me a nice form of cotton mouth or make me a bit sleepy, at least until I got used to them. (And I’m not on any long term drugs at all at this point, so lucky me), but the two worst offenders for me were the Lexapro and the Ultram. I went on the Lexapro at one point last year for anxiety issues – something fairly low dose, and I did notice that I immediately felt a bit more… Read more

Contracts! (And Mini Blog Contest!) aka Pimp My Title

Posted in contest | 20 Comments
I officially got my contract from the publisher today. I’m obviously not going to go into any sorts of details about the specifics, but it’s pretty damn cool. And scary. But mostly cool. Lots of stuff to try to figure out, but overall the language seems pretty straightforward. (Although perhaps I have a little bit of an advantage since my dad was a lawyer/is a judge. Sometimes you absorb some of the concepts just growing up around a lot of legal documents.) In the meantime, my editor also informed me that it looks as though the publishing date for Book 1 has been bumped up. (I’ll post specific dates when I’m allowed). However, as cool as that is, it also means I need to come up with:1) A Series Title. 2) An Actual Book Title. Like now. That’s right – Shadow of the Incubus needs a pimping new title. So,… Read more

Packing in Pink

Posted in guns, wtf | 4 Comments
Look! Gun accessories for girls! Yeah. I think I’m going to have to do this for my Glock. (Although honestly I think I like the pink shooting glasses the best.) All it needs is a Hello Kitty decal on it. Edited to add: And for those of you who absolutely need the best – check out the Hello Kitty Chain Gun!… Read more
