Vestibulitis on Dr. Oz

Posted in Vestibulitis | 2 Comments
Just a quick blurb/PSA on VVS today –> https://www.doctoroz.com/videos/when-painful-sex-something-serious Being a long time sufferer myself (about 15 years now), I can at least say that it’s gratifying that the message is getting out there. The article is really just a brushing over of the topic and certainly doesn’t share anything new, but again, it’s out there. Believe me ladies, it’s *NOT* all in your head. It sure does suck, though.… Read more

Not Really a Review

Posted in mercy thompson, patricia briggs, review | 9 Comments
Part of the problem with writing books is that it sometimes takes all the pleasure out of reading them. And I don’t mean that in a snide way, just that when I do manage to snag a little extra time to read for fun, I find myself going over everything with a more critical eye. This is probably because I’ve been forced to reevaluate so much of my own writing, as well as doing crits for other writers or judging contest entries. It’s hard to turn off that jaded little voice that now inherently starts pointing out flaws (perceived or otherwise), wherever they may be. Too many -ly words. Strange metaphors. Using the same word too many times too close to each other. WTF heroes and TSTL heroines. All these little pet peeves start adding up and adding up until it’s hard to really just *enjoy* a story for what… Read more

On Pins And Needles

Posted in acupuncture, Interstitial Cystitis, Vestibulitis | 6 Comments
I had my first Acupuncture session today. Since the back surgery, the nerve pain is much improved, but I still have some pretty awful trigger point muscle issues. So, I figured I’d give the needles a shot. After about 30 minutes of discussing my health problems, the practitioner looked at my tongue. It’s purple and that’s a good sign, apparently. My “root” is still good. (I’m assuming this is a chi sort of thing). Far East mysticism aside, picture me, if you will, with about 11 needles up my spine and in my shoulder. For the most part it didn’t hurt, though some of the worst spots in the rotator cuff did kinda suck when she tapped them in. What surprised me was when she hooked up a TENS system to the needles and shot some nice electrical stim through them, for about 15 minutes. After which she rubbed it… Read more

Corners and Scenes and WTF Do I Do Now?

Posted in craft, updates, writing | 5 Comments
Not that I’ve actually written myself one, that is. Just a bit of a speed bump on the writing front.  I’ve been clipping along at a fair enough rate on ShadowWeaver, but it’s quite obvious to me that I’m starting to flounder a bit with the direction, so I need to regroup the end bits of what I have. The current scene involves a road trip – essentially a Mystery Machine of a van rambling its way down the New Jersey Turnpike. And Phin appears to be belting out Rick Springfield’s Jessie’s Girl. (And no, I don’t know why – but there it is.) I think originally I wanted the trip to take two days of driving, but as I look it back over, I’m not sure it warrants that. Part of the problem is that I never really settled on just where the imaginary town of Portsmyth is located.… Read more

Sleigh Rides Are OverRated

Posted in random, vacation | Leave a comment
I will preface this blog by saying that I don’t photograph well. I spent most of my childhood trying to avoid the camera, so if you should see a picture of me and you go blind, don’t say you haven’t been warned. Anyway, as part of our vacation to Vermont, we took the kids to Billings Farm. It’s one of those historic and quaint sorts of farm houses with a working dairy and all that. And from a learning perspective it was pretty cool. I took a lot of photos of the house and wrote down notes as to how things were set up as far as the kitchen and the pantry and the cellar dairy were set up. I’m pretty sure at some point I’m going to need to describe those sorts of rooms in my writing so it will be nice to have the reference. Part of the… Read more
