Meh.
So no staple removal today. Apparently there was some redness/drainage at the bottom that concerned the nurse, and while her “gut instinct” was that I’d be fine, she didn’t really want to take that chance. (As in – if we remove them and it’s not healed, you’re going to have to go back to surgery. Um. No. Thanks.) Rather than take that chance, we’re going to wait until Tuesday. And for good measure, I’m on about 1000 mg of Cefrin. Per day. For 10 days. Whee! (And I’ve already called my other doc and got a nice round of Diflucan ready to go, ’cause this is the same antibiotic they gave me during the surgery last week…and that took about 5 hours before causing the other thing. Just a matter of time, and I’ll be damned if I’m stuck on a Sunday night with no one to call. LOL.) Otherwise,…

When They Insist on Doing Their Own Thing…

I’m talking characters, of course. I’ve started picking up the writing a little more now that I can focus (and sit longer!). The first chapter of ShadowWeaver is done…horribly rough, but done. And honestly, what is the deal? The chapter started out a little serious and then shot straight down road to smutsville – I pulled Abby and Ion back out of it, and by the end they were in bed with each other anyway. *eyeroll* Seriously. Well, hopefully they’ve gotten it out of their systems now and I can focus on something resembling a plot. Damn panster. I’m still feeling a tad plotless, but I’ve started Chapter 2 anyway. Have to see where it leads me. When I wrote Shadow of the Incubus, I skipped around a lot – wrote scenes as I felt like, or used workshop exercises to stimulate the imagination and see what showed up. (Which…

Back to Work…

…or something like it. Actually managed to work from home yesterday, and while I did have to make frequent stops to go walk around or throw on an ice pack, I seem to have managed. Overall, I seem to be feeling better, though there definitely seems to be some inner pain. I think there’s a lot of stitches under the skin, so that’s understandable. Although, every once in a while, I get a cramp on either side of the staples that feels like I’m being branded. Seriously, the pain is really pretty damn exquisite…and thankfully, doesn’t last too long. On the other hand, I feel a tad removed from the family. I can’t curl up on the couch with the kids or put them to bed and I’m starting to miss that. Hopefully once the staples come out, some of that will change. The concept of driving is laughable, so…

Pearl of the Day

Over on the FFP Pro loop, we’ve started this ‘Pearl of the Day’ thing, where we post the best thing we’ve written all day. I haven’t been able to keep up the last few days since I haven’t really been writing, but I like the idea of doing it on a daily basis anyway, so here’s a quote from The Mermaid’s Rose, a short one-shot retelling of the end of The Little Mermaid, written for a Backspace contest. (And it was written a few weeks ago, but I promise I’ll do better…) My fingers brushed the edge of my lips, not daring to creep towards the waiting darkness of my mouth. The space within suddenly seemed cavernous, as though I might be able to swallow the moon with my sadness.…

Random Rant…

Why is it that the only book out there on Shelta is from 1937? And why can’t I find a copy for under $180??? Used??? Irish friends, can you help a girl out?? Unrelated rant: Nathan Bransford turned me down in less than an hour today! W00t! An almost instantaneous rejection…but sooo much better than waiting six months, eh?…
