Magpie’s Fall Giveaway

Posted in blog | Tagged , , , | 24 Comments
It’s my birthday next week, but I figured I’d celebrate by doing a giveaway of my own here. Basically, two winners – your choice of a signed copy of either Magpie’s Song or Magpie’s Fall, whichever you like. Open worldwide. (Prefer an ebook? I can do that too – just let me know!) Contest will end next Wednesday (my bday, yo) and I’ll do the drawing on Thursday. Prizes mailed out shortly after that. Look how pretty!! –>    So how do you enter? Easy way is in the comments below – I had a pretty crazy summer – so tell me something good that happened and share the love.  The rest of the options – the tweets and the FB page stuff are just extras to earn you extra chances. Also the newsletter – I don’t send out a lot of stuff on it, but it’s worth an extra… Read more

Posted in blog | Tagged , , , , | Leave a comment
Hey guys – just a note to say the book version of Magpie’s Fall is now available for pre-order! Release day is July 16th. The print book is currently being formatted and will come out shortly after (I will post that info here along with the amazing full cover.) Kindle Everywhere else (more formats are coming, so if you don’t see yours here, keep checking…) It took a little longer to get this one out than I wanted, but it’s here now and I really hope you will enjoy continuing Raggy Maggy’s journey: When the worst of her nightmares finally comes to pass, Raggy Maggy finds herself in the depths of the Pits, an underground labyrinth of caves filled with Rotters, lost Meridians, and forgotten Moon Children. Injured and desperate, Maggy is swept into the machinations of a secret Meridian team of scientists stationed in the Pits, who have been… Read more

Schrodinger’s Genre

Posted in blog | Tagged , , , , , , , | Leave a comment
So I sold a short story last week. It’s a mermaid story. Or, more to the point, a lake mermaid story. Where the mermaid eats children. I had actually written this particular story several years ago while waiting for my son’s Science Fair project to be judged (parents weren’t allowed in and it took several hours.) So I cranked this little nugget out and subbed it to an anthology, where it made it to the top 20 out of 500 or so entries…and then was rejected. Alas. So I tried off and on again over the last few years, but as is my usual problem, it doesn’t really fit a specific genre. It takes place in the modern world, but it’s not an Urban Fantasy. It definitely isn’t a romance. It’s a bit dark for fantasy maybe, but not dark enough for your usual horror. I don’t know what you’d… Read more

The Cost of Doing Business

Posted in blog | Tagged , , , , | 7 Comments
Just a quick PSA rant on book piracy and how it affects indie authors: It sucks. Actually it sucks for traditionally published authors too – the main difference is that with my traditionally published books, I got paid up front, so at least I got SOMETHING out of it. Plus most of the larger publishers now have nice and handy take-down portal sites where I can simply upload an offending link and let them do the grunt work. In other words, it still sucks but it’s way less time and money out of my pocket. This is my first go round with the whole indie-pub thing so I’m sure I’m going to make some mistakes and whatnot, especially when it comes to marketing and publicity and just overall trying to figure out what works and what doesn’t. Which means everything comes out of my pocket and I don’t get paid… Read more

Magpie’s Song: Happy Release Day!

Posted in blog | Tagged , , , , | Leave a comment
It’s here! So excited to finally have Magpie’s Song out and in the wild! I’m still out and about in Moab (which if you follow me on social media at all, you probably know quite well as I’ve been uploading a fair amount of pictures/video of some of the off-roading stuff.) Internet is still rather sparse, and today I’ll be hiking around somewhere so if I don’t respond to emails or tweets or whatnot in a timely fashion it’s because the signal is so bad – but I will as soon as I can!) In the meantime, LilyElement is doing a giveaway on her blog, so if you’d like a chance to win a copy of Magpie’s Song, head on over that way and take a chance. If you’ve already read it/plan on reading it, I’m just going to ask that you take a few moments and throw up a… Read more
