Twist and Shout
I went to a new back doctor today – this one is an Osteopath. This was on recommendation of my current pain doc, and while I’m all for trying something new, I still feel like this is a rather long term pattern that I can’t really seem to escape from. Essentially I go to Specialist X – Specialist X says they’ve seen people “just like me” and they’re sure they can fix my problems. And I spend a shitton of money and time on procedures that may or may not be covered by insurance. Sometimes I get some relief for a bit. Sometimes it’s just an exercise in futility. Sometimes things improve immensely, but then my Jenga spine decides to topple somewhere else…leading to yet another round of treatments that’s often more akin to grabbing at straws. “Well, let’s give you a shot of THIS and see if does anything.”…

Word Whore Thursday: Phineas Edition
I decided to let my…um…better half take the blog reins today. After all – we’re talking about sidekicks this week on Word Whores, and who better to discuss that than the little shit himself? Other news: I’ve got the cover flats for A Sliver of Shadow…but I can’t show them yet. Soon, soon. 😀 Also, I’ve got an interview and giveaway over at A Great Book is the Cheapest Vacation. Enter for a chance to win a signed copy of either A Brush of Darkness or A Sliver of Shadow (winner’s choice). Open until November 10th.…

I’m completely jealous I can’t go to Comic Con this week, but for those of you who are, get your nerd on with this lovely map. (Click on it to get the full size.) Buzzfeed has additional mapping. (I’m sorta out of energy atm – one sick little girl kept me up for the majority of the night and my brain has become nothing but a squishy sort of mush…)…

Honestly, I have no idea who this little girl is, but her reaction to being allowed to go to Disneyland probably rates an Oscar. (If YouTube had those sorts of awards…)…

He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster. And if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you. ~~ Nietzsche Over the last several months I’ve noticed a rather disturbing trend in the writing community. There’s a growing element of dissatisfaction and a holier-than-thou smugness that I find increasingly distasteful. It seems as though everywhere I go, there’s a blog or a tweet or a vitriolic diatribe about how self-pubbing is better than trad pubbing. How agents are Satan incarnate. Publishers are out to screw us. Ebooks are better than paper books. Revolution is coming and it’s great. Change is coming and it sucks. We’re all going to be millionaires. We’re all going to die chewing on our underwear in the gutter. We should push forward and jump off the cliff. We should hold back and see how everything…
