New Beginnings

Posted in craft, pantster, shadow weaver, writing | 2 Comments
I finally started getting down the beginnings of the new book yesterday (though I haven’t updated the word count widget yet). I only got a few pages of it written…but the first chapter has been kicking in my head for over a month now – I just need to get it down.  Hopefully I’ll be a little more successful with that today – mr myn is working all night tonight, so once I get the kids into bed, the evening is mine. (The 3rd book, should it come to pass, will be called “Child of Shadow” –  but that’s a *long* way off, though I already know how it begins and ends…go figure). Shadow Weaver will pick up approximately 6 months after SotI, and though I know exactly how it begins, I’m not entirely… Read more

Heart of the Rockies Finalist

Being that I’m already getting my shot with the ones I want, it seems silly and just a tad greedy to try to hit them up a second time on the same manuscript. If the editor/agent reads it in the final and doesn’t ask to to see more, that’s the answer right there. So… Read more

The Ugly Duckling

Posted in cartoon, wtf | Leave a comment
You know, my kids have suddenly discovered Tom & Jerry. They love it, and I’ve been watching it with them – it brings back a lot of memories for me. Sure, it’s violent – but it’s cartoon violence, right? I don’t think my kids are gonna cut off the cat’s tail or slam each other in the head with baseball bats or frying pans. On one level, it’s kind of refreshing. The cartoons aren’t hiding behind some kind of PC message – the characters smoke, beat the crap out of each other, and in at least one episode, Tom actually dies via guillotine. Pretty hard core, honestly. I remember watching it as a kid and not really thinking about it – and judging by the way the kids giggle their asses off, I don’t think they are either. On the other hand, we watched the Ugly Duckling episode (down below)… Read more
