Word Whore Thursday: Wolves at the Door

I’m over at Word Whores today, talking a little bit about heroes – or really, the concept of what heroism is, I guess. It’s a hard topic for me to talk about, so apologies if it a bit over the top. (Drama llama, that’s me. >_<)… Read more

Word Whore Thursday:Perfection

I actually gave up my weekly slot over at Word Whores for a guest post from Danielle (go check it out, it’s really quite brilliant.) The topic this week is about imperfection – or at least the things about ourselves that we don’t like. I’ve got a pretty extensive list, sadly enough, but I don’t think hashing those things out here is particularly productive. Most of said imperfections can’t really be changed anyway and so much of that really depends on perception anyway. Things I find to be horrendous are probably fairly unnoticeable by the average person. Very few people hold others to standards of perfection…so why are we so hard on ourselves? (Although I will say, that’s probably true from a personal standpoint, as a western society we sure do pride ourselves on who has the skinniest thighs or the smallest ass or the whitest teeth. Why? I’m over at Word Whores today, talking a little bit about my love for certain sorts of shoes. Probably nothing new for anyone who follows this particular blog, but it was still fun to revisit some of the older posts from over the last few years.… Read more

I’m at Word-Whores today talking a little bit about time. And truthfully, I had a much different blog post in mind, but it got a bit hi-jacked by thoughts of my mother, so if it appears a bit melodramatic or melancholy, than I apologize for that. And incidentally, I’ve gotten a lot of questions about where my “inspiration” came from on writing A Brush of Darkness. Thus far, I skirt the question a bit  – one scene came from a dream, for example, or that I wanted to explore a story about an incubus. But  I suspect there was a good deal of my own grief that was the precursor to it. Guess it’s that write-what-you-know thing. Abby’s mother is dead (of a car crash) in the book and some of the story centers around Abby’s denial of that fact. Although Abby is NOT my avatar, I will fully cop… Read more

Word Whore Post! and BoD Excerpt!

I’m over at Word-Whores today talking a bit about courtesans and a rather round-about way of comparing them to writers. It’s sort of rambly.  (Thursdays will be my normal day over there from now on, so I’ll be doing a bit of cross-posting, I think.) Also I’ve got an excerpt from A Brush of Darkness up on my author site now if anyone is interested. 🙂 Also, also – killer review of Brush of Darkness over at Fresh Fiction today!… Read more
