Working on It

Posted in blog, Lucy, sick, updates | Leave a comment
So to speak. I’m getting a little tired of constantly reporting on the negatives. Intentions being what they are, I had so many plans for catching up on the writing this weekend. And I did, a little. Still have a little more to do today to finish my daily wordcount. (Though right now I’m horrendously distracted by the premiere of A Game of Thrones on HBO. Right. This. Minute. *ahem* Hellllooo creepy blue eyed dead girl.) Alas, poor Lucy is still not well. Her fever actually spiked close to 105 last night (about 3 or 4 in the morning). Some Motrin brought it back down, but it was a long couple of hours. And considering I’d gone to bed at 2 AM, well, let’s just say intentions are great, but little sleep makes for a cranky author. At any rate, Lucy’s also picked up a hell of a hacking cough,… Read more

I Can Has No Sleep

Posted in blog, no sleep 'til brooklyn, RT, updates | Leave a comment
Yeah. I’ve been a very bad blogger this week. Mea culpa. I’ve also had like no sleep and my eating schedule is completely gorked up. I’m not even going to start with what the hell has happened with my back the last few days. *ahem* I did want to shout out that my fellow Word Whore Marcella Burnard won a RT Reviewers Choice award yesterday, so massive kudos to that. However, I did want to give a shoutout to my old childhood friend who picked me up from the hotel yesterday and got me into the back stage lot of Paramount for a while. Very cool. I’ll blog more about him next week. Also, thanks to all my Leaguers for showing me the ropes and making me laugh my ass off. 🙂  I’ve got the vampire ball tonight and the book signing tomorrow and then after that? I have no… Read more

Echo Location

Posted in blog, guest post, updates | 2 Comments
I’m swamped today, but just a quick note to mention that I’m over at Savvy Authors, talking about using Wordle to find word echoes.  The rest of my day after work will be to frantically start writing up a few more guest posts. Missed one that was for Thursday…that was apparently due…last Thursday. Some days I think my head would fall off if it wasn’t attached. Incidentally, Canada has apparently started shipping A Brush of Darkness out, as a few people have told me they got their copies today. 🙂 Also, I’ll be mailing out signed copies to contest winners tomorrow, so hopefully they should have them by Saturday at the latest. I have gotten some additional requests for signed copies, or questions on how people can get signed copies – I’m working on that, so bear with me. 🙂 And I’m all booked for RWA and RT 2011 (still… Read more

Monday Evening Updates

Posted in blog, random, updates | 2 Comments
So we missed the epic snow here in Northern Virginia for some reason yesterday. (Fine with me honestly – it’s been plenty chilly here with the wind as it is. I’m just as happy to avoid slogging through two feet of snow if I don’t have to.) I didn’t blog yesterday either, mostly because I was feeling lazy and the idea of slumming around in my monkey pjs was a lot nicer than doing anything in front of the computer. Plus I had family in town and the kids were in their post-Christmas funk. (I’m soooo borrred. There’s NOTHING to doooooo…) But I’m back to the grind today. Working from home all this week (which means hanging in my monkey pjs in front of the keyboard after all.), but I’m trying to catch up on all those interview questions which are due very shortly. I’ll be doing the guest blog… Read more

Bacon Bowls and Updates

Posted in editing, industry, updates | 22 Comments
Yes, that is a bowl made out of bacon. I can think of few things more perfect than a bowl made of bacon, particularly this morning. First, I want to give a massive shout out to Simon Larter for getting a short story published in this Friday’s upcoming edition of Short Story America. Congrats, my friend. Second – had an awesome lunch yesterday with Sara McClung, a local writer that I’ve been meaning to get together and hang with for ages. She is awesome and I just want to thank her for the company and awesome conversation over dumplings at PF Chang’s. (And can’t wait to do the David Garrett Meet & Greet with her in Feb!) Third, I’m unfortunately going to have to announce that Danielle Poiesz is no longer my awesomesauce editor. (She’s still full of awesomesauce, actually…just not in the world of editing.) I won’t say I’m not… Read more
