Friday Morning Retro WTFkery: Are You My Goddess?

I decided I needed some laughter this morning. This is sorta sad, actually, but I can’t stop watching anyway. In some ways it’s like a visual representation of what I imagine being an agent is like (and all those odd queries coming in – from the arrogant to the desperate to the over-the-top – each little manuscript trying to stand out in its own way.) Of course, it’s not likely that a query writer would get on Ellen twenty years later……

Insurance Shenanigans

So I got a phone call from my insurance company last night. A sweet-sounding grandmotherly type verified who I was and then proceeded to read her script – dropping all sorts of phrases like “at no cost to you” and “free enrollment” and “we feel this would be a benefit to you.” Of course, she never really said what “it” was up front, except that it was some sort of “program” that involved me talking to their highly trained nursing staff about my lower back. You know – so I wouldn’t have to be bothered going to those nasty doctors and wasting all my time. Now, my previous insurance tried the same thing with me once. I had gestational diabetes when I was pregnant with Lucy, so of course I had to deal with that. I was injecting myself with insulin and testing my blood sugar and all that. And…

For Your Amusement…
Posted in blog, clearly I need something more constructive to do with my time, shouldn't I be writing?

Occasionally I have been known to be somewhat of a dork. It’s probably true for me most of the time…though some days I astound even myself. (Yes, you may feel free to point and laugh next time you see me. It’s okay. I’m used to it.) Anyway, a few weeks ago, I mentioned that I’d gotten a chance to hang on David Garrett’s tour bus for a little while with Marcus Wolf…which partially resulted in him giving me a bottle of Perrier water from the bus cooler. <== Said infamous bottle. Yes. I kept it. Yes. Me. Dork. Me. Duh. I think I promised threatened to make it into an office mascot of sorts. And so I have ==> It’s okay. No need to hide the laughing. And yeah, just imagine what I could accomplish if I spent this much time on something constructive? >_<…

Back in the Saddle
Funny thing about having a book published? The world keeps turning. The last few weeks have been pretty stressful as far as the writing front goes. The blog tour and interviews, while fun, definitely took a much bigger chunk out of my time than I realized. It’s a necessary evil, particularly for a debut author, since it’s all about getting the word out, showing people who you are and what you’ve written. It’s a balancing act too, because as much as we’d love to just shout to the world “Hey, buy my book!” – we really can’t. Or you can, but I think the hard sell isn’t always a great way to go, particularly on Facebook or Twitter. We already get so much visual debris being hurled at us on a regular basis as it is. I would think a constant blare of “Look at me! Buy my stuff!” would…

Swag the Dog
Okay – only a few weeks left until convention season starts, but I wanted to show off one of the new items I’ll be handing out (starting at Romantic Times): Brush of Darkness trading cards! Apparently these are the new cool things to have, and I had a custom set of four designed by the marvelous Darchala last week. 🙂 I’m still working on the backs, which should include names and quotes and all that fun stuff, but hopefully I’ll have them off to the printer this week. (Got a favorite character quote? Let me know!) The cards are small – only 2.5. x 3.5 inches, so we wanted to keep the designs simple. Portraits seemed like the thing to do – and obviously we’ve got Abby, Ion, Phin and Melanie to start. I’ll add to these as I can, but I have to order them in sets of 500…
