Another year come and gone, I suppose. I wasn’t going to bake today and I wasn’t going to blog today, but here I am, doing both. So much for intentions. I know everyone is doing a sort of end of year round up – and figured I might as well do one too – it’s been pretty crazy overall on a number of levels, but let’s see: House Stuff – if you may recall last January we discovered mice had basically trashed our basement – this led to an enormous loss of personal property. One of the things about side projects is that they can have a tendency to cost money. I’m no stranger to that – I ran my gaming forum for nearly 10 years out of my own pocket, to the tune of $400 a year. I never asked anyone to contribute to it because I never really thought about it. It was my project, and my responsibility and that’s all there was to it. In hindsight, maybe I should have. We talk about what an item’s intrinsic value is, though so much of that is in the eye of the beholder. (Just look at all the crazy stuff people collect – a worthless stuffed toy to you might mean everything to me.) And the same is true for consumed media. It’s been a rough couple of weeks over at the Pang house. Between snow days and sick kids, the daily schedule has been upset a little more than I’d like it to be. And then tack on last week, which was nearly a complete waste as I succumbed to a bout of the flu/strep/anemia thing as well that hit me a lot harder than I anticipated. I can write/work through a cold, but you know it’s bad when I don’t want to eat/play video games/read/do anything other than lie there and oh god, someone come put me out of my misery now. (I did, however, stumble upon an anime on Crunchyroll entitled “Our Home’s Fox Deity” – if you thought that sounded like something up my alley, you’d be entirely correct. Word-Whore ~ Fox and Willow Thursday

It’s been a really long time since I’ve made one of these updates, but here we go. 🙂 On a personal milestone level – today is the last page for Chapter 1 of Fox & Willow! (All 156 of them…wow) To be able to have worked on a collaboration for 18 months is an amazing thing, and I’m very grateful to have done it with such an incredible friend and artist. (*huggles Aimo*) Of course, this isn’t the end of F&W by a long shot – we’ve got a short epilogue coming up in the next few weeks and Chapter 2 starts up in the beginning of December, so there’s more to come. A lot more. 🙂 Also on the radar today is my post on disabled protagonists on Word Whores. Virtually Strangers

I’ve mentioned before that working with Aimo on Fox & Willow has been one of the most rewarding collaborations I’ve ever had. But it’s always sort of disconcerting when people ask how we met. Because technically? We never have. (A lot of those mumbled explanations are along the lines of “Well, we sort of met on Tumblr and we both enjoy playing Bioware games and I hired her to do a few sketches for my Abby Sinclair books and then we just basically fell into it. Also? Elf peen.”) A long term project like F&W is a lot to ask of someone you’ve never seen face to face. Especially given we’re 12 hours apart in different countries. Not to say we don’t communicate – we’re nearly in constant text and iChat mode on any given day, so in some ways we probably communicate more frequently than a “real life” friendship.… Read more
