Just This Side of High

So to speak. Somehow amidst all the “getting the plague” stuff this weekend, I also managed to gork up my neck and shoulders. I suspect the five or six solid hours of revising stuff on Saturday probably did the trick, since I have a tendency to hunch…and I don’t think I moved much. Anyway, the fun thing about chronic pain is that when you have it in one part of your body (my lower back, in this case), it has a tendency to pretty much override everything else. So I don’t always notice with other stuff goes wrong. Plus with the fever/aches/chill things going on, my entire body was hurting pretty bad on Sunday night anyway. So today, I went back to my regular back pain guy – it’s been about two months since my last set of prolo shots. The good news is that the SI is really stabilizing nicely. The… Read more

Shoe Whore

Posted in back pain, blog, shoes | Leave a comment
Been a while since I’ve bought any new shoes. I mean, with all the back issues I’ve had it seems a bit cruel to myself to buy something I can’t wear. But today was hopefully my last prolotherapy treatment (though I may be heading toward doing something with my knees next – I’ve got to get some x-rays for starters. Whee.) I needed something nice for under my faery costume next week anyway, so these seemed like they might work. I’ll manage for a short while in them at least, but my faery costume is huge and long and I’m not likely to dance it in. (I’ll prance about for a little while and then change out of it and into something a bit more practical.) Of course Lucy wasn’t about to be outdone, so I snagged her a pair of these lovely little pink things. –> The shoe-whore gene… Read more

Insurance Shenanigans

Posted in back pain, blog, ranty mcrantypants | Leave a comment
So I got a phone call from my insurance company last night. A sweet-sounding grandmotherly type verified who I was and then proceeded to read her script – dropping all sorts of phrases like “at no cost to you” and “free enrollment” and “we feel this would be a benefit to you.” Of course, she never really said what “it” was up front, except that it was some sort of “program” that involved me talking to their highly trained nursing staff about my lower back. You know – so I wouldn’t have to be bothered going to those nasty doctors and wasting all my time. Now, my previous insurance tried the same thing with me once. I had gestational diabetes when I was pregnant with Lucy, so of course I had to deal with that. I was injecting myself with insulin and testing my blood sugar and all that.  And… Read more

Snap. Crackle. Pop.

Posted in back pain, joints, random | Leave a comment
My left knee has started to crack when I go up and down stairs. It’s very annoying. Typical of my body, maybe, but it’s a new thing, and I dislike it intensely. Not that I haven’t always had popping joints. When I was two I dropped a massive glass piggy bank (full) on my left front toe. Pretty sure I broke it – and it’s cracked ever since. My right knee has been a nightmare since I hyper-extended it in high school. My knuckles. My wrist. My spine? *laughs* It’s like a symphony of sound every time I move, from my shoulders to my tail bone. I actually have one of those giant styrofoam tubes at home. I just arch my lower back over it and roll and pretty much everything pops. Kinda nasty, really. But there’s something about that release of pressure which is very nice, even if it doesn’t last. (And… Read more
